New Year, Fresh Start
Daily Reflection Monday, 1 January, 2024
Things I'm Grateful For:
Having my ever-growing to-do list written down in my planner, so I don't have to forget those things I need to do.
Highlights:
Since I was up past midnight with friends, I made a final "fuck it, I'm staying up all night." After everyone logged off, I had a spurt of productivity and got a bunch of little odds and ends taken care of.
Even if it only really amounts to $1 per day, I enjoy the feeling like I'm setting myself up for success when I transfer some money into my investment account each month. Because January has 31 days, I transferred $31 this time. It's in a TFSA so I won't be taxed on what the money earns, and it's a zero-commission account, so everything that is put into that account will be mine when I withdraw it.
I didn't get everything on my to-do list done for the day, but I still managed to do quite a bit! I don't mind carrying over two tasks, especially when one of them is 90% done.
Challenges:
I couldn't get my money stuff taken care of when I first wanted to because my bank's online portal was down for maintenance. Bit of a nuisance, even though it's not really a huge deal--I don't have to deal with my money at 4:00am, it can wait until a more reasonable hour.
I accidentally ended up napping in the middle of the day. I laid down around 11:00am, and then dozed off and slept until about 2:30pm. So that took a chunk of time away from me that I could have used, but after an all-nighter, three and a half hours won't ruin everything.
Emotions:
I feel like an asshole, and a terrible friend. A friend of mine is going through a rough patch because a woman ran a red light the other day and fucked up his car. He's going through the process of trying to get proof for his insurance that he wasn't at fault, and trying to figure out what's going to happen to his car (he spent all his savings on it less than two months ago, and the odds are pretty much 50/50 that it could be written off). I fully understand that he needs to vent, but I just really don't like listening to that kind of thing. I want to just go and tune him out so it feels like a win-win (he gets to vent, I don't have to actually listen), but that also feels like a terrible thing to do.
The shoes I ordered with my Christmas money are supposed to be here tomorrow, according to FedEx. It's hard to say how accurate that is though, as it's been "we have your package" since the 28th, with the order itself placed on the 25th. If it's not in tomorrow, Wednesday would also work. I just want them in before I go back to school on Thursday.
Lessons Learned:
For all that my friends are usually there for me when I need it (even though I will rarely ask for help), I'm not great at doing the same for them. I think that's part of why I don't ask for help; I don't want to be one of those people who ask for help all the time but never offer anything in return. I want it to be fairly balanced, and unfortunately, holding back on my end is how I can help keep it that way.
Today's To-Do List:
Completed
Readjust the cat feeder to dispense at night.
Reorganize phone apps.
Find new wallpapers for my phone and laptop.
Divide my second student loan disbursement into GICs.
Pay board.
Clean out my D&D binder and prepare for the new campaign.
Renew my FitBit Premium membership.
Add $31 to my investment account.
Give the cats baths.
Put together the grocery list.
Uncompleted
Clean out my school binder and prepare for the new semester.
Finish catching up on laundry.
Tomorrow's To-Do List:
Buy a mirror that hangs off the door for my bedroom.
Buy a notebook to start a commonplace book.
Get groceries.
Nana's housework.

I’m Not Gay -- Sam Winchester x Male!reader
Tumblr media
I'm Not Gay — Sam Winchester x male!hunter!reader
Part One / Part Two
Description: Forced out of his motel room by his sister when she and a stranger burst through the door playing tongue wars, (Name) decides to go for walk, where he runs into Sam, tall, handsome, smart, and no, (Name) definitely doesn’t like guys, I don’t know what you’re talking about.
Warning: Some internalized homophobia, references to sex, and some cussing. Supernatural-themed gore and violence (they fight vampires)
Genre: Fluff, I guess? A bit of angst in there somewhere probably, too, since I have no self control.
Pairing: Sam Winchester x Male!Reader
A/N: I have no idea what the fuck this is. This is such a crack fic. Reader has a sister named Lidia, for reasons that I do not know.
Words without A/N: 2483
Masterlist
<———————>
"You sure you don't wanna come with, (name)?"
"No, Lidia, I'm just gonna stay here and research. 'Sides, socializing is for psychopaths."
Lidia (Last name); ninety-three pounds of redheaded sarcasm, anger issues, and badassery. Also my sister, senior to me by four years ("and three months, (name)!") Also, also, a total extrovert with a thing for trying to force her introverted little brother to socialize. Disgusting.
"C'mon, (nickname), you need to get laid! I could totally find you a pretty, butch boy and—"
"Lidia, for the last time, I'm not gay!"
For the last several years, my darling, amazing, delightful (taste the sarcasm?) big sis has been living under the (totally unfounded) belief that I am a homosexual. I don't know where she seems to have gotten that notion, as I am not. (Summer camp doesn't count, dammit!)
"Mhm, keep tellin' yourself that, lil' bro. But, fine, if you won't come with me–" she dramatically picked herself up from the seat where she'd been fancying up her makeup–"I guess I'll just have to go without you. How terrible, little old me, scared and alone, walking down the road after dark without someone to protect me," she pouted.
"Oh, ha ha, very funny. We both know you could kick anyone who tried to bother you's ass without even looking."
Giggling, she picked up her bag (and a few blades) and turned towards the door. Looking back at me one more time, she gave me a middle-fingered salute before about-facing and heading through to the outside.
"See ya later, loser," she called back before the door closed all the way.
Even though she was already gone, I still mumbled a quiet "punk" under my breath after her, before setting off to start my research.
————
Three hours, several coffee refills, a few dead ends, and one (minor) mental break down later, I was really no closer to finding the thing we were hunting, and there was a crash outside the hotel door.
Lidia had been out for a while, there was a chance it was just her returning from whatever bar she had gone to, shit faced and unable to walk correctly, therefore knocking something into the door or the like, or, my least favorite option, it was something supernatural or other here to kill me.
Moving to grab a gun, I silently stalk towards the window beside the door. There's a few more dull thuds on the door, and some odd, wounded-animal type noise comes through the wood. Cautiously, I move the curtain a few centimeters, just enough to peer through without being spotted.
There, pushed up against the door, is my sister, some idiot attached to her at the lips, with hands going places I'd rather not think about when it comes to my sibling.
Grimacing, I turn around, shove my gun into the waistline of my jeans, and move to quickly grab my laptop and a few books. Maybe if I hurry I can get out of here before they actually start fucking, this time.
Hurrying towards it, the door suddenly opens, and in spills a very shirtless (and totally not attractive, what?) man, and my sister, who was now working on pulling her bra off. They shuffle towards one of the beds, and somewhere in the back if my head I register that its my bed that they're going towards as I awkwardly move around them, trying not to alert them of my presence. I didn't wanna deal with that conversation again.
Finally getting all the way to the door, I carefully pulled it open as not to bother the two, and backed out of the doorway. Glancing up, I got a full view of Lidia's tit before I managed to actually get out of the door.
I quietly closed the door, making sure that the click of the hinges was quiet enough that it wouldn't disturb the couple inside.
Pausing for a second, I couldn't help the dramatic shiver that rattled my body.
"That is-- that is far more of her than I ever needed to see," I winced.
Turning to go find a place to settle down while my sister and the stranger... did their thing, I came face-to-face with a brick wall. Well, more face-to-chest, actually, and brick wall wasn't quite right, I guess. He was closer to a tank. Even at the few paces away from me that he stood, he still seemed incredibly tall. Long-ish brown hair curled around his ears, and his face was undoubtedly attractive. A small smile (that I definitely did not find adorable, I don't know what you're talking about, I'm totally, definitely, one hundred percent straight) tugged at full lips and his eyes stared down at me questioningly. I could feel an ugly blush climbing up my neck.
"Uh– heh, uhm, my, my– uh my–" my awkward stuttering was cut off when the man huffed a small laugh, and spoke.
"You must be the brother."
...
"Heh?" His smile only broadened at my perplexed stare and he took a few steps closer to me. I couldn't help but feel slightly intimidated by the guy's humongous stature, though his face seemed innocent and kind enough. Still, in my line of work, you can never be too careful. I instinctively felt my hand reach for the gun still hidden in my waistband.
"In, uh, in there," he pointed lightly at the door I'd just come out of, "my brother, he's the one with your sister. She was talking about a brother at her motel, I, uh, I guess that'd be you," he finished off, trailing out slightly as he realized he had nothing more to say. It was his turn to blush.
I let myself relax slightly, I didn't think he was so much of a threat anymore.
Smiling slightly, I couldn't not let my eyes glance over him.
Uh, in as purely heterosexual way, obviously.
His shoulders were stupidly broad, and under his denim coat I was sure there had to lay muscle. Before, when I said he was tall, I don't think you really got the full picture. The awning thing that came off the front of the hotel to protect anyone on the sidewalk was probably your standard seven foot high roof; this guys head was only a few inches under it. He was huge. His face was young, but had a whisper behind it that said that he'd seen some things someone his age generally didn't. The dimples on either side of that blindingly bright smile made him just so much more attractive, and I couldn't not find him cute. (Once again, in a totally hetero way, I'm really, definitely, completely Not Gay.)
Figuring that I couldn't stand there and gawk any longer without coming off as creepy, I finally spoke up.
"Uh, yeah, Lidia. And your brother. That was–" I shuddered slightly, "–that was a sight I never needed to see."
He chuckled slightly and took a few steps closer to me. I was still a bit wary, but I let him come closer without pulling a gun on him, anyway.
"Yeah, no, it's not pleasant. He's done the same thing to me before."
I blanched up at him (damn, he really is tall) and thought to the scene that was unraveling right inside the door. Didn't he say he was his brother? I mean, to each your own, but damn—
"No! No, not—" he cut off my train of thought, growing redder by the second. He took a few more steps forward until he was right in front of me, holding his hands up in surrender. "I mean— I meant barging into the room with a partner while I was still there like that, not-not that he's—not that he's done, done that—" I cut him off, wanting to end the poor babbling disasters misery.
Cracking a smile, I laugh gently at him and reach out to touch his arm and make him pause.
"Oh-oh, its okay, calm down man, I getcha, I getch—"
MOAN
My sisters pleasured voice cut me off and made me freeze up, my face burning red.
"Nope, nope, nopety nope nope nope, can we please go anywhere else and continue this conversation? Literally anywhere, oh my fuck, oh my—" I started walking before he could say anything, not wanting to have to suffer through another sound like that.
He chuckled again as I passed him and quickly caught up to me, reaching out to gently grab my arm before I got to far.
"My, uh– we could hang out in my room for a while. 'Till they're, ya know, done," he grimaced and nodded his head towards the room to the direct right of ours. He hadn't seemed dangerous so far, so I mean, why not?
I nodded hesitantly and let the man lead me into the room, noting the fact that his hand didn't leave my arm until the very last second.
He let me in first and closed the door softly behind us. I have never been so thankful that these walls were thicker than any other motel's walls in existence. If I focused hard enough, I could almost imagine that the faint moaning was just sound coming from the little box TV.
The room was set up pretty much the same as ours. The same, mildewy wallpaper, two twin sized mattresses on either side of the room with the same pale comforter tucked around a paper pillow. A few littler things did stick out to me, though. The pre packed buggout bags sitting right at the end of both beds, the laptop that sat on the bedside table with a bunch of papers laying haphazardly around it, a half-drank coffee cup sitting beside it. The scene seemed oddly familiar.
"My, uh," the man's voice cut off my searching eyes, "my name's Sam, by the way. I don't think I said that before." He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly and I definitely didn't find it cute. At all. Nope.
Sam. It fit him. I like it.
Smiling up at him, (and totally not noticing how his frame would almost take up the entire door frame that he stood beside) I opened my mouth to respond, only to be cut off again by a crash from the room next door and an even louder moan. I grimaced, the awkwardly smiled up at him once again.
"I'm (name), it's, uh, it's nice to meet ya?" How do people socialize again?
"Uh, yeah, nice to meet you, too." Well that's reassuring, at least he seems just about as nervous as I am.
He stepped forward a bit and awkwardly held his hand out to me, which I accepted with a small, close-lipped smile. The moment our skin made contact, I genuinely didn't want to let go. The warmth of his overly-large hand was intoxicating, and his touch made me oddly giddy.
Looking up into his eyes, I found, was a total mistake. A stunning mixture of smokey hazel and green, small flecks of honey dotted his iris'. His eyes seemed so deep. Seemed so much older than they really were, once again, like he'd seen far more in his life than an average man his age could ever claim. Not to be dramatic or anything, but he was absolutely captivating.
I don't really know how long we sat there and stared at each other, but by the time I finally realized how weird it probably was, and forced myself to look away, I was starting to feel a bit light headed. Let's blame that on lack of sleep and an excess of coffee, and not on whatever was causing my stomach to flutter so dangerously as it was.
"Heh," I looked down towards our feet, my face flushing dramatically. I'm sure by now I'm about as red as a baboons ass, and only flushing redder as I realized that he was still holding my hand.
"Uh-uhm, so, uh, Sam--" I stuttered pathetically, focussing on the hand that still held mine until he awkwardly let go. "--what, uh, what do you do for a living?"
And so the night kicked off just like that. Soon enough, we were both sat cross legged on the bed, sharing stories (all the ones that I could think of that didn't involve murder or monsters) and trading memories. I learned that he had planned to be a lawyer, and was almost done with his course when some unmentioned family drama popped up, and he had to take a sudden leave. I found out that he traveled for work with his brother (a sentence that seemed suspiciously familiar) and that he loved to read. He told me how his girlfriend had died in some terrible house fire only a few months before (my heart definitely didn't freeze up at the fact that he had a girlfriend, shut up) and that he still had nightmares about her. We talked for hours, and, unlike with most people, I never once got bored of it.
I really don't know how long we sat there and chatted, but, by the time the doorframe to the room was vomiting up a sweaty and slightly-drunk older brother, my eyes had started to sag with exhaustion.
"Wa-Sam-Who's this?" Dean (Sam had spoken of him frequently over the evening) slurred slightly, gazing at me with an almost accusatory look. Before I had the chance to respond, Sam was already up and talking, standing between us almost protectively.
"(Name). He's, uh, he's the little brother of the girl you...were with, tonight." He seemed uncertain at exactly what he was saying, but he got the point across.
Being as he was still standing guard in front of me like he was (why on earth was he doing that?), Dean had to lean around him to look at me, which made Sam fidget nervously, for some reason.
"Dean--"
"(Name), you should probably be headed back, it's getting kinda late and I'm sure your sisters wondering where you're at," Dean cut his brother off, leaning further around Sam to look at me. Not gonna lie, he kinda scared me. Standing, I moved to grab the things I'd escaped the room with earlier, and headed for the door, turning back to beckon Sam a good night, I caught sight of them staring at eachother like they were having a silent argument, and just darted out the door, instead of saying anything. Maybe we'd meet again one day.
The air was cold, and it had gotten very dark in the time that I was hidden away in the room with Sam. I walked briskly back to my own room, opened the door with my key, and hesitantly poked my head in, not wanting to wake my sister if she'd fallen asleep.
"So there  you are, (nickname), out getting some dick, were you?"
Ugh.

The alcohol burned, but not as bad as the tears in his eyes.
Charles wasn’t even sure what he was saying anymore; something about love, something about loneliness, something about fearing death. All he knew was that finally, someone was listening to him.
Erik sat beside him quietly, listening, watching Charles. He hadn’t drunk any alcohol at all that night. He hadn’t been at the reunion, either. The class reunion—where everyone had brought their partners, or kids, or both, or stories of their adult dating. Charles hadn’t dated in six years. He had never married. He was falling behind and that frightened him.
“I’m gonna die alone,” he sobbed, “I’m gonna die alone and everyone is going to pity me and n-no one will care.”
Erik touched his shoulder softly. “That’s not true,” he said firmly. “Raven and I will care. Your students will care. Your son will care. And we won’t pity you just because you don’t have a partner.”
“I’m almost forty, Erik!” Charles burst out, looking at him and almost sobbing again. “No one will want me when I’m old!”
“Forty isn’t old,” Erik replied sharply. “You’re being an alarmist, Charles.” He paused, frowning in the way that meant he was thinking hard. Then he said, a little more gently, “Hey. You’re gonna have summer break from university, right? Why don’t you go somewhere nice? Like an actual vacation, not just shutting yourself away in your apartment for three months straight.”
“I… I don’t know where I would go,” Charles said, a little startled at how much the idea intrigued him. Just… get away. Hide somewhere safe. Maybe not for longer than two weeks, but definitely for a long time. It would have to be somewhere accessible; he couldn’t travel without his chair. That narrowed things down considerably.
“I’ll look for something,” Erik said firmly, and ran his fingers through Charles’ hair. “Just try to get through the last week of classes. You’ll be okay.”
Charles had no reason to believe Erik about being okay, but if Erik helped him look for something, Erik would find it. He was just wonderful like that.
Charles swallowed hard and nodded. “Alright,” he whispered.
~
The hangover was worse than he’d had in years. Charles grimaced and reached blindly for the glass of water he always left on his nightstand, and… encountered nothing. Fuck. He probably forgot after Erik left. He propped himself up on his elbows and looked around his room, eyes still blurred from sleep.
Everything was perfectly in place. Everything was normal. Except for the fact that Erik was sitting in his armchair, slouched and  with his head propped on his hand, fast asleep.
Charles stared at him for a long moment. He rarely got to anymore. They were both busy, or with friends, or Erik would notice and Charles would have to think of a lie quickly. Erik was extremely handsome and Charles hardly ever got to admire that for long.
It wasn’t just his looks, though; he always denied it, but he wore his heart on his sleeve and his emotions on his face. The crinkles at the corners of his eyes, mostly from laughing; the lines around his mouth, some from smiling, most from his default grim state; and when he slept, his expressions were so free. Right now, he was having a nice dream—his brow was relaxed and his mouth curled up at the corners and his jaw was unclenched.
Charles felt the usual urge to touch him, perhaps kiss him. They hadn’t kissed since they were twenty-three, though. They’d moved on from such childish feelings.
Erik looked so peaceful. Charles wanted to cry.
Instead of crying, though, Charles got to work wiggling his way towards his chair. He still wasn’t the best at getting out of bed in the morning, but that hardly mattered; he’d been living alone for twenty years, he didn’t need to get up perfectly.
Erik woke up as soon as Charles got his feet placed right on the rest and straightened to grab his wheels. The taller man rubbed his eyes and grunted, “What time is it?”
“Six in the morning,” Charles replied. “Ah. Shouldn’t you have gone home?”
Erik shook his head. “No one waiting, might as well stay where I’m useful,” he answered. There was no pain in his tone or face, but Charles’ throat still caught. The divorce had been painful for everyone, but most of all for Erik and Magda. Charles had never gotten the full story of why they had broken up when they had been so very in love, and he didn’t really want to; it wasn’t his place to pry.
So instead, he said, “Right. Well… I’m going to get ready for work.”
Erik’s eyebrows snapped together. “You look like shit,” he said sharply. “How are you going to work with a hangover that bad?”
“It’s not the worst I’ve had,” Charles replied, fidgeting a little in embarrassment. “I can work.”
Erik continued to stare at him, eyes narrowed, inspecting his face. Then Erik stood, and said, “Fine. I’ll make breakfast.”
“Alright,” Charles said, a little weakly.
A shower was taken, a toilet was used, and Charles brushed his teeth before wheeling out of the bathroom and heading for the kitchen. The headache was worse, so bad he almost couldn’t see. Ah, well, he’d gone through studying for his PhD with worse pain. It wasn’t that bad.
Except then he vomited all over his knees and feet and sat in the middle of the hall, stunned, unable to drag his brain out of misery to realize what had happened.
“Ah, fuck,” Erik muttered, hurrying towards him. “Right, you’re not going to work.”
“It’s not that bad—”
“Charles, please shut up.”
So Charles did.
Somehow, Charles ended up tucked in on the couch with water, aspirin, and toast at the ready. He was rather bewildered about why Erik was doing this for him. It grated on his nerves, being fussed at like an invalid, but… Erik’s attention was nice. Charles liked it.
The day passed slowly, but calmly. Charles napped a lot. Erik seemed content to shove glasses of water into his hands and read Charles’ books. Lunch and dinner were simple, but much tastier than anything Charles could cook for himself.
Around 8PM, Erik sat on the footstool beside Charles and shoved his laptop into Charles’ hands. “Found a place,” he said. “It’s pretty remote, and the lease is for three months, no shorter, but it’s accessible and has a great view.”
“Thank you,” Charles said, looking through the pictures. They were… honestly quite beautiful. The house itself was a bit small, but it had two bedrooms, a full bathroom with plumbing, a generator for electricity, a mostly modern kitchen, and a fireplace. The amenities listed said that deliveries of basic needs arrived every Saturday. There was a small town only about twenty minutes away, but the “road” was cobblestone, and Charles did not fancy traversing that more than once.
It had a lovely garden, too, and access to a private beach. It was perfect for hiding from the world.
Charles pursed his lips, thinking. He really did want to hide… but did he want that because the idea of being alone was nice, or because he was bitter? Did he want to go here to rest, or to make people feel bad and contact him out of obligation? Did it really matter? He wanted to hide. He wanted to cry alone, in a place where no one would hear. He wanted a change a scene.
He wanted to get away from Erik.
That thought was… nasty. Selfish. But it was true. Charles’ gut clenched, but he forced himself to look up at Erik, smile, and say, “It truly is lovely. Thank you for finding it.”
Erik nodded, looking satisfied, and stood. “Book it for two people,” he said firmly. “I’ll come with you.”
Alarm thrilled through Charles. “You don’t have to, really, you don’t—”
“I want to.”
Charles shut his mouth, stunned. Erik just picked up his laptop and set it on the coffee table. “It’s late,” Erik noted, frowning at the clock. “Are you tired?”
“Not really,” Charles answered softly.
“Alright. I’m going to bed.” Erik took a step towards Charles, stopped short, frowned, then shrugged and walked away, to the guest room.
Charles sat very still on the couch for a long time.
~
Erik insisted on carrying their bags, which was exasperating to no end, but, well, at least Charles didn’t have to use that cheap bag he’d bought to hang on the back of his chair.
There was a bit of trouble when the airport pretended they didn’t have his requirements on file, and then the flight attendant told Charles he wasn’t allowed to sit in the disabled seats because they were close to the door. Erik snarled and the flight attendant backed down. Charles was pissed enough to not care.
The plane ride was rather long, but Charles passed the time by reading some research papers that he had downloaded to his laptop as PDFs. They were engrossing enough that he didn’t even notice that when the snack cart came around, the flight attendant gave him a juice box and a bag of goldfish crackers, instead of asking what he would prefer. When he did notice, it was too late to complain, so he scowled and kept reading, ignoring the juice and crackers.
The next thing to do after they exited the plane, reclaimed Charles’ chair, and swept past the annoyed looks of the other passengers, was to find somewhere to sleep. Erik had engaged a night at a motel near the middle of the large town, and thankfully, it was on the ground floor.
As they prepared for sleep, Charles remembered something, and smiled.
“What are you laughing at?” Erik asked irritably as he set a cup of water on the side of the nightstand closest to Charles.
“Oh—I wasn’t laughing,” Charles assured him. “I was just remembering that roadtrip we took about fifteen years ago. Remember how we went to the coast in Washington state and the motel had the exact same wallpaper, only with shag rugs hung all over to hide the water damage?”
Erik snorted and shook his head. “And then the ceiling in the bathroom broke and you got knocked down by a naked, soapy grandma. I remember.”
“At least they gave us our money back.”
“Yeah, after she and her husband threatened to sue the motel and you mentioned that you had a family attorney who was good with lawsuits.”
“What can I say, I was pissed.”
Erik smirked, and opened his mouth to say something, and then decided not to. His frown returned. “We should sleep,” he said abruptly, and flopped on his bed. “Good night, Charles.”
Charles, flabbergasted, stared at him for a moment, then said, “Good night, Erik.”
~
The house was even more delightful up close. Charles was charmed immediately, and the realtor handed over the keys with a big smile.
The first day was unpacking and settling in. The sun was sinking, gilding the ocean waves with gold and turning the shadows of the water purple and green. It was beautiful sight. Charles spent half an hour just looking out the window at the sea, entranced.
A snort brought him back to his body, and he turned to see Erik looking at him with a wryly amused expression. “What?” Charles asked.
“I haven’t seen you that engrossed in just looking at something in ten years,” Erik replied. “You usually have something in your hands, or you’re reading.”
Charles blushed and ran his hand through his hair. “I haven’t really had a chance to just look at something, without having to do anything else,” he admitted. “This is… nice.”
Erik’s face made a strange expression, and he swallowed hard. “Good,” he said gruffly, and turned back to making dinner from the provisions they’d brought.
Quiet and darkness swathed the island not too long after dinner. Charles got into the rather lumpy mattress and let the sounds of the ocean and the wind draw him into that empty space he so often had trouble getting to. This really was nice. He sighed contentedly and fell asleep gently, easily.
~
The next morning, he woke up to pale golden sunshine and the smell of pancakes.
He yawned, sat up, and looked around blearily. He hadn’t noticed last night, but the walls were painted in swirls of blue—shades of paint that were so similar in saturation and tone that it was hard to pick out without such bright light. Charles smiled, oddly cheered by this. Small, beautiful details.
For some reason he thought of Erik’s eyes, shifting shades of blue and grey.
He shook his head and got out of bed, wheeling himself out to the large room that had no walls between kitchen, dining area, and sitting room. Erik was making pancakes and frying sausage patties, humming to himself and not realizing Charles was there. Charles watched him for a moment, his chest aching with the shivering joy of being near Erik and the dread of what might happen if he told Erik about his love. It would be terrible to say anything. But he wasn’t sure he could survive such close quarters without letting it slip.
He would just have to try, then.
Charles cleared his throat, and Erik jumped and spun. “Damn it, Charles, make noise or something,” Erik snapped, scowling hard. “How many pancakes do you want?”
Charles smiled. “Three is enough, thank you.”
Breakfast was nice, and Charles listened to Erik’s humming with a smile. He’d forgotten that Erik hummed his favorite songs when he was happy with his food. He recognized all the tunes, though; it hadn’t been that long since they’d been roommates.
Ten years. Charles’ smile faded, and he stuffed another piece of pancake in his mouth. Ten years of steadily drifting apart. He didn’t even know why Erik had come when Charles had called, the night of the reunion. They hadn’t spoken in six months.
But here they were. On vacation together, like when they were young and stupid and impulsive. Charles wondered if this would end horribly, or if they could still be friends. The corners of his mouth turned down, and he sipped his grape juice with no sense of enjoyment.
“Hmph,” Erik said, swallowing his last mouthful. “You better not be making any stupid decisions.”
“How would you know if I was making any decisions?” Charles objected, lifting his head to glower at Erik.
Erik pointed his fork at Charles and replied, “You always make that face when you’re torn about something. And the face you’re making right now is exactly how you look every time I call you out.” Erik’s mouth began to curl up at the corners, and his eyes crinkled a little. “And now you’re embarrassed,” he taunted. “Don’t lie.”
Charles covered his face with his hands, cheeks burning, and Erik laughed.
The whole day was like that. They went down to the beach after lunch, and Erik started loudly singing the British national anthem and cackled when Charles threw a seashell at him. Then Charles started singing “Part Of Your World” from The Little Mermaid, and Erik lunged and pinched his cheeks, stretching them out so he couldn’t sing properly, and then Charles was laughing too.
Going back inside, Erik folded a paper airplane and they played that game they made up in university: whoever had the plane had to make up the most ridiculous fact they could, and then when the other person had the plane they had to refute the fact in the most obnoxious way possible. They spent several hours doing that, throwing the plane across the room and having a stupid debate about penguin social structures. They were both smiling by the time night fell.
The next day dawned grey and chilly. Charles got out a book, and then pulled out another and offered it to Erik.
“Here,” he said, “I know you were interested in this one.”
Erik blinked at him, then accepted the book. “I haven’t read this journal in eight years,” he said slowly, beginning to frown. “It’s university exclusive.”
“Exactly. I, ah, borrowed that one when no one was looking, because...” Charles trailed off, looking up at Erik’s frown. “Do you not want to read it?” he asked, beginning to feel tight with anxiety.
Erik looked up at him, apparently surprised. “I do want to,” he said. “I just—don’t know how you remembered.”
Charles shrugged, blushing. “I’ve never met anyone else so interested in the same journals as me,” he said uncomfortably. “It stuck with me, is all.”
Erik was silent for a moment. Then he reached out and bopped the top of Charles’ head with the journal, just like he did when they were younger. “Alright,” he said, and sat on the couch next to Charles.
The first week passed easily; Charles found that close contact with Erik reawakened, not just his romantic nature, but all the memories of the things that made them friends. All of Erik’s charming habits, all of his annoying actions, it reminded Charles of how they had dealt with each other in the past. Instead of endless compromise, there were arguments that never ended, but were not painful or infuriating. Instead of listening to silence because they hated each other’s music, they annoyed each other endlessly by blasting their songs on the other’s phone through Bluetooth. Erik tackled Charles into the couch cushions and put him in a headlock for playing Depeche Mode.
Instead of surface pleasantries, they would sit up until 1AM talking about all the things they could never tell anyone else. Instead of bitterly complaining about the world, they talked about all the beauty they’d seen in the past few years.
Charles went to bed every night strangely content, and woke up every morning ready to begin another day of calm, and quiet, and companionship.
The problems started when Raven called him.
They were in the middle of the Plane Game, arguing about the shape and size of the average plesiosaur’s testicles, when Charles’ phone rang. He looked at the caller ID, perked up, and answered immediately. “Raven! Hello!”
“Charles, it’s been a week,” she snapped irritably. “When are you coming home?”
Charles blinked, surprised. “I’m not sure,” he lied. “A very long while yet, I suppose. Why, is something wrong?”
“Yes, you were supposed to come to Kurt’s recital.”
Guilt bit Charles’ stomach—but so did irritation. “I was not aware I was invited to any recitals,” he said calmly. “Is it the same venue where the stage director asked me if I wanted a lollipop?”
“Well—yes, but that shouldn’t matter. Kurt wants you to come.”
Charles thought for a moment. He did love his nephew, and loved being part of his life—but he knew exactly what would happen. If he were there, Raven and Azazel would dump Kurt in his lap, ask him to watch the boy, and then wander off and not come back for an hour or two. Charles may love his nephew, but he was not capable of catching a child that fast in a public area with other adults around. If Charles went to the recital, Azazel would make cruel jokes and when Charles got upset, Raven would be mad at her brother, not her husband. If he went to the recital, he would not be comfortable or happy, no matter how well Kurt did.
“Please tell Kurt I’m sorry,” Charles said, “But I won’t be available. Thank you for telling me, though.”
“Ugh, you are so selfish, Charles! Tell me when you get back.” And Raven hung up.
Charles lowered his phone into his lap and stared at it for a moment.
“What happened?” Erik asked.
“She wants me to go to Kurt’s recital,” Charles answered without looking up. “I do hope it goes well, and I know Kurt will be spectacular, but… I don’t know. I don’t exactly like being called a cripple and when I say something Raven gets mad at me.”
“Who calls you that?” Erik demanded sharply. Charles looked up, startled, to see actual anger on Erik’s face.
“Azazel,” he replied. “He started doing it about a week after I came home from the hospital. That’s why Raven stopped helping me; she said Azazel had told her that I needed to learn independence.”
Erik’s frown deepened further. “That fucking asshole,” he growled, and grabbed his own phone.
“Erik, wait, you don’t have to—”
“Hush.”
So Charles put his face in his hands and listened in horror as Erik called Azazel and chewed him out. Apparently Azazel kept trying to justify himself, because Erik kept shutting him down. Erik was right, of course. But he didn’t have to do that.
When Erik hung up, Charles kept his face hidden. There were tears in his eyes and he felt utterly ashamed. He shouldn’t have said anything. He really shouldn’t have. Now Azazel and Raven were going to be pissed at Charles again, and Erik, and it was going to be horrible. Maybe it was a good thing they wouldn’t be back for three months.
“He did deserve that,” Erik said grumpily.
“You could have waited,” Charles croaked. “Now he’s going to tell Raven, who will call me again to yell at me for lying, and then they will both be pissed at us for even thinking that they’re wrong.”
“No they—”
Charles’ phone rang again.
He swallowed hard, took a breath, and answered. Before he could say anything, Raven said, “Fuck you, Charles. Never come near me or my family again.” And then she hung up.
Charles did not attempt to stop the tears as his hand lowered again. There was no point. There was only Erik to see. And Erik wouldn’t tell. He had promised years ago, and Charles believed him. He wouldn’t tell anyone that Charles had cried.
“I’m sorry.”
Charles turned his head to look at Erik. He was too depressed to be startled. Erik had never apologized for losing his temper on Charles’ behalf, so this was new; but Charles didn’t really care. “Sorry for what?” he asked.
Erik pressed his lips together tightly, then answered, “I’m sorry for not listening to you. You were right, I didn’t think it through. I won’t do it again.”
Charles nodded and wiped his eyes on his sleeve. “Thank you, Erik.”
After a moment, Erik stood, walked over, sat beside Charles, and hugged him. Just like he used to before they broke up. Charles relaxed almost immediately. He remembered this. He remembered what it meant. He was grateful for it.
~
Over the next two weeks, Charles had to field calls from students, fellow teachers, and even his physical therapist, all of them worried about him. No one would say why. Several of them asked if he was safe, and he always said yes with a puzzled frown. Of course he was safe. He was with Erik.
Kurt called him at night once, on Raven’s phone, crying. He said Raven and Azazel were fighting and he was scared. Charles stayed on the phone with him and Erik called Emma to ask her to go over and make sure Kurt was okay. Unexpectedly, Raven wasn’t even annoyed that Kurt had called Charles; instead, she took Kurt to a hotel for the night. Erik and Charles thanked Emma, who told them it was her pleasure and they’d better not expect her to be the go-between.
Charles laid awake for hours after that, caught in a panic attack brought on by memories. He fell asleep around dawn, and slept all the way to noon.
“You alright?” Erik asked, looking worried as Charles picked at his salad.
“Yes,” Charles replied softly. “I’m fine.”
Erik made a face, then said, “It’s nice today. Let’s go to the beach.”
The beach was, indeed, quite pleasant. Charles even smiled at the glittering water, and Erik rolling up his pant legs to test the water and find shells. He snickered a little at Erik’s small yelp of “Cold! Fuck!”
Warm sun, brisk breeze, the scent of the ocean, and the realization that no one could actually come here and guilt or pressure or terrorize him, made him feel better with every breath. He wished he could touch the sand.
Erik walked over and said, “Do you want to feel the water? It’s fucking icy.”
Charles looked up at him, and grinned. “Sure, why not,” he said.
So Erik picked him up in his arms and carried him to the edge of the water, and set him down on the sand. Charles immediately put his hand in the waves and squeaked.
“Told you it was cold,” Erik said smugly, then yelped as Charles rubbed a handful of dry sand in his hair.
They stayed by the water until the light was almost gone, looking out at the ocean and talking about mermaids and sirens and other water-beings. Charles felt suitably relaxed and melancholy to say, “I used to wish Selkies would steal me from the beach when I was little. Even after Raven came. I wanted to disappear from real life. Under the ocean was the only place I could think of where no one would ever find me.”
Erik tightened his arm around Charles’ waist. “Then we wouldn’t have met,” he pointed out softly.
“Well, no. But you could’ve made better friends than me. You were popular because you were you. You would have been just fine without me.”
“Charles, that is not true.” Erik dragged Charles onto his lap, startling another squeak out of him, and grabbed his chin to make him look at Erik. He was scowling, and his eyes may have been shinier than usual. “You’re the one who got me through Shaw’s trial, remember?” he snapped. “You’re the one who helped me get into Oxford. You’re my best friend and I wouldn’t trade you for any other friend in the entire goddamn world.”
Charles stared at Erik. He wanted to cry, but he also wanted to kiss Erik. He was so close. And he was so supportive.
Instead, Charles rested his head on Erik’s shoulder and said softly, “Thank you. You’re my best friend too.”
“Good.”
They sat in the gathering dark and growing cold, holding on to each other tightly, and didn’t speak for a while. There was so much to say, and yet no words for any of it. Charles closed his eyes and listened to Erik’s heartbeat. It was a good sound.
“We should go back,” Erik sighed, rubbing Charles’ arm.
“Mm,” Charles hummed in reply, not making any movement to pull away.
“We’re both covered in sand.”
“Yes we are.”
“Your chair will be full of sand.”
“I know.”
“I’m starving.”
“Go without me.”
“And leave you alone by the sea after that Selkie stuff? Absolutely not.” Erik stood, cradling Charles in his arms, and returned him to his chair. Charles pouted, until Erik cupped Charles’ cheek in his hand and said sternly, “You don’t get to disappear on me again, Charles. Got it?”
“Got it,” Charles replied, and almost said that Erik looked otherworldly and breathtaking in the light of the seaside moon. Silver tracing his cheeks, glowing in his eyes, glistening in his white-streaked hair… concern and care and worry on his face. It made Charles’ chest ache. Before he could stop himself, he reached up and ran his fingertips down Erik’s jaw.
Then he remembered the situation and snatched his hand back, looking away and clearing his throat.
“We should—go,” Charles stammered, and turned his chair towards the slope up to the house.
The phone calls to “check up on him” declined sharply, and Charles enjoyed the peace. He and Erik spent a lot of time reading, or arguing, or playing chess. Moira video-called Charles to talk about classes next year, and to pass on Emma’s message that Raven and Kurt were staying with Emma for a while. Charles bit his lip, worried, then said, “Thank you, Moira. Please tell Emma I’m grateful, and Raven and Kurt that I love them.”
“Will do, Charles. By the way, did you read the university newsletter? That guest lecturer who talks about overcoming physical disability through optimism is coming by during the first semester. Do you want to come with me and we can ask him questions until he gets angry?”
Charles grinned. “Actually, Moira dear, I would love that.”
Moira laughed. “You are scary sometimes, you know that? Ah well. Anything else we should go over?”
“Not that I can think of. How are your cats?”
A few days later, Erik got a call from Azazel. He took it out to the garden. Charles bit his lip and kept playing with the interesting new fidget Alex had bought for his birthday, trying not to listen. He couldn’t even hear Erik speaking, the walls were too thick, but he thought he heard a raised voice. When Erik slammed the door coming back in, Charles flinched.
“It’s official,” Erik announced, flopping on the chair across from Charles. His face was a mix of satisfied and irritated. “Raven handed him the divorce papers this morning, and he’s blaming me.”
Charles gaped at him.
Erik ran his hand through his hair, mouth twisting in consternation. “He said it was because I—what were his words? Oh, yes, encouraged you to pit Raven against him. I swear I had no fucking clue he was that abusive.”
Charles closed his mouth and swallowed hard, then said softly, “It’s alright. I didn’t either. I thought he was just an asshole.”
Erik snorted. They were both quiet for a moment. Then Erik asked abruptly, “What do you want for dinner? We got a squash with the delivery yesterday.”
“Squash sounds lovely.”
~
On the fifth week of their stay, a storm hit.
It rattled the roof, beat against the windows, shook the earth. The rain sounded less like rain and more like small caliber bullets. The ocean roared and moaned and lightning flashed over it far too often for comfort.
Charles and Erik sat in the pantry, Erik shivering and curled up in Charles’ arms. He hated storms. He once told Charles it was because it reminded him too much of the night those nazi bastards broke into his home and—
Charles pressed his face to Erik’s sweat-spiked hair and hummed a lullaby, over and over, until the storm abated sometime after dawn. Erik still needed a few minutes to collect himself, but by the time the sun was out, shining apologetically, he was calm.
And then he had a panic attack around noon and Charles got on the floor with him and worked through it with him, until Erik was exhausted and trembling, but no longer glassy-eyed and with a clenched jaw. Charles ordered him to go sleep, and Erik did so, squeezing Charles’ shoulder in thanks. Charles chewed his lip worriedly, then shook his head and went to make himself a sandwich.
The next time there was a storm, Charles woke up to Erik crawling under his blankets with him and hiding his face in Charles’ shoulder. Nothing was said about this—but every time the wind picked up around the little house, Erik huddled against Charles, and Charles held him and tried so hard not to kiss him.
~
It was the end of the second month when Charles wheeled out of the bathroom, yawning, to see Erik dancing in the kitchen.
He had headphones on, and was listening his phone, and apparently didn’t care that the eggs were done. He looked a little bit like an elementary school kid trying to dance, except his hips were certainly smooth enough to make Charles blush. But he looked happy, and that was… wonderful. Charles just watched him, and found himself smiling. A silly dance from a silly man. It was adorable.
“I love you so much,” he whispered.
Of course, then Erik saw him, and almost fell down he was so startled. He ripped off his headphones and barked, “Damn it, Charles, warn me!”
“You had your music on, you wouldn’t have heard me,” Charles shot back. “You’ve gotten better at dancing.”
Erik stared at him, stunned. “Ah… I have?” Erik asked, and there was a current of disbelief and hope in his carefully neutral tone.
Charles smiled and nodded. “I remember the first time we danced around in our dorm, you were drunk and couldn’t stand straight but you were far more enthusiastic than me. You’re much better nowadays.”
“Oh.” Erik looked down at his feet, fidgeting with the headphones. Then he looked up and gave a tiny smile. “Thanks,” he said.
“Of course. Are the eggs burned?”
~
It happened so slowly that Charles didn’t even register it at first. But suddenly, in a spark of clarity, he realized that he and Erik were… growing into each other. It was so natural to sit tucked under Erik’s arm, to share a bed, to let Erik carry him into the ocean so he could feel the waves. And it was so natural to tell dumb jokes until Erik threw a pillow at him, or sing to him softly when he couldn’t sleep, or put on a show or movie that he remembered Erik liking.
Erik wasn’t as broody and quiet anymore. Charles wasn’t as scared.
Erik kissed him on their last day there.
~
It was actually quite disappointing to arrive back in New York and be swallowed up by noise and smells and lights and things moving quickly. Charles held Erik’s hand in the taxi tightly, his heart beating too fast. What would his coworkers think? What would Moira say? What about Raven, would she be angry? Then Charles looked over at Erik, who was watching him with a soft expression, and he felt a little more grounded. It didn’t matter what others thought. Erik loved him, and he loved Erik, and that was the only exchange of emotions that he should worry about on this topic.
Neither of them had said love, of course. But that’s what they had.
After dropping off all of their trunks at Charles’ apartment, Erik did some quite entertaining mouth movements before asking Charles nonchalantly, “So, got a spare room?”
“Don’t even try it,” Charles admonished. “My bed is more comfortable and you know that.”
Erik grinned. “Just wanted you to say it,” he said, and dropped a kiss on Charles’ head. “Nap time?”
Charles wove his fingers with Erik’s and chuckled. “Nap time,” he agreed.

Of the many different American accents, which one is your favorite? I don’t really have one. Aside from the few ones that sound pretty distinct, like country accents or the New York accent, nearly all of them sound the same to me.
What was the last thing you watched on Youtube? CM Punk’s comeback promo. That’s something that’s been on repeat throughout the day for sure...I still can’t believe he’s back; I had long accepted that he was done with wrestling so this is definitely a memory for the books :’)
Are your kitchen windows open right now? I don’t think we ever open ours.
What was your favorite job you've ever had? I’ve only had one job so I can’t pick favorites, but so far I am having a blast at my current one.
Do you know anyone who had a kid before they were financially stable? I really don’t want to assume but if I had to guess, my high school classmates who had kids either straight out of high school or in the middle of college. All of them are still sustained by their parents, based on their posts.
What's your phone's wallpaper picture? My lockscreen is V; my home screen are all the boys huddled for a group pic.
When was the last time you saw the person you had your first kiss with? November last year, and I really can’t imagine a situation where we’ll have to be in the same room once more. Of course, I’m sure there would be high school reunions down the line but she’s never been the type to show up for occasions such as those.
Have you read any of Shakespeare's works other than Romeo and Juliet? Yeah, we had to read three more works of his in high school. We were prohibited from relying on the No Fear versions, but I never wanted to spend my time having to decode Shakesperean writing so I just smuggled in my No Fear copies during English class.
Is there anything hanging from the doorknob in your room? Yeah.
Why did you move to where you're living now? Because living with 11 people in a duplex meant for 5 was starting to be too much for my mom. And because it was damn near impossible living with alcoholics and smokers who would also sometimes get violent.
Have you ever kissed someone 3+ years younger than you? I haven’t.
Do you clean your house all at once, or a little bit at a time? My mom is in charge of cleaning and she’s the type who doesn’t care even if you’re only trying to help – she wants things done her way, so she’s been more than alright shouldering every aspect of the house’s cleanliness.
What's your opinion on wearing pajamas in public? Do you yourself do that? I’ve seen people do that and it actually looks pretty fashionable if they’re able to pull it off. But in general, I don’t really care what people want to wear; I’m more particular about other things, like their scent lol. To answer the second question, no I don’t wear PJs out in public. What was the most severe punishment your parents gave you when you were growing up? Taking away my laptop and internet privileges and indirectly helping me fail several classes that required me to do research.
Have you ever been to California? No.
If so, when was the last time you were there? Never.
About how many times per month do you eat dinner at a restaurant? Back in college I used to go once, twice a week. I obviously haven’t been able to do this for the last year and a half.
Do you think dreams actually mean anything? Why/why not? I think it can sometimes be a reflection of emotions we’re currently feeling – like how I tend to get nightmares when I’m in a period of depression. It’s not always like that, though, and sometimes my dreams just bunch a random cast of people and dump them in a random scenario for a completely nonsense dream.
What's something you're really bad at compared to others? Creativity.
Do you know anyone who treats retail/restaurant employees poorly? My parents could.
Are most of the books you own hardcover or paperback? I think it’s a healthy balance of both. When was the last time someone betrayed your trust? What happened? Mmmh, I think just that whole period when the breakup took place. My ex had done a full 180 and suddenly wanted nothing to do with me. It was confusing and overall extremely hurtful. How much was gas the last time you filled your car up?  I don’t pay attention, honestly. I already have a preset amount in mind whenever I drop by the gas station and just see how much it would fill my car.
Do you usually fill up at the same gas station?  I have a go-to brand but they have hundreds of branches around the metro, so it’s usual for me to gas up in different cities.
What was the topic of conversation the last time you spoke to a sibling? Nina’s the one handling the photocard trade I mentioned in a past survey since she’s done deliveries and shipping in the past, so I just asked about the status of our booking.
Are you currently looking for a new job?  No, I love mine.
How many times did you move when you were growing up?  3-4? I’m not really sure how many times exactly since my parents had also moved when I was a baby.
Who is the person you are the closest to? (emotionally, not physically)? Angela.
What are some odd habits you have relating to food/eating?  I consume condiments like soup/broth hahaha. If a dish has mayonnaise or ketchup, I mix in a generous amount of mayonnaise or ketchup with my rice. Another habit would be peeling off all the batter from my fried chicken and setting it aside so I can have it as the last part of my meal.
Are any of your relatives musicians?  They’re not musicians per se but a good number are exceptionally skilled at the piano. Still baffles me how I didn’t get to inherit that trait :(
Have you ever been in fear for your life?  Yeah, I always feel unsafe when I have to walk in very public sidewalks.
What was the last caffeinated drink you had? Do you drink this often?  3-in-1 coffee, my go-to type of coffee lol. Yeah, I have it nearly everyday.
Have you ever read any books by John Steinbeck?  No.
When was the last time you painted a room in your house?  I’ve never painted a room.
How has your day been so far?  Pretty uneventful but I’m happy I got to relax and lie in bed a lot. I’m not feeling too anxious for Monday tomorrow since my workplace is having another mental health break day on Friday, so I only have to work four days this week yay :) Then next Monday is a holiday so I’ll be getting a four day weekend!!

i just saw a thing, and got really inspired by it, and immediately thought of you: could you describe some of your mutuals as characters in an au? if you don’t have time to then it’s okay!
hi, honey bee! 🐝✨ i was torn between writing a fic idea for each one where they were y/n with their bias or how i described my biases here, but I kinda mixed the two together :’) I only did a few of my mutuals, but I hope this is what you’re looking for, lovebug! 💓 also, it’s really sweet that you thought of me omg thank you so so much 🥺🥺
@winetae :: ave is that one mom friend who scolds you for going out to a frat party and coming back at like 4 a.m. the next day even though you have a midterm at 9 a.m. but she makes sure to wake you up in time for it and hands you a granola bar, a filled up hydro flask, and some aspirin to take before the exam. she has the cutest outfits all the time with her oversized soft sweaters and pretty floral long skirts, and her instagram is one of those super aesthetic ones with pretty pics of cakes and tea and has like 30k followers, so she’s always up to go with you to the latest trendy place like the dog cafe slash boba bar that just opened up down the street. she’s always put together and probably has like matching rose gold minimalist furniture all around her apartment with lots of plants everywhere and perfectly placed round mirrors on her walls and it all looks so nice and you’d find her place in architecture digest or something until you go to her kitchen and all she has is like...... bread, a pack of ramen, and some wine and cake in her fridge. but it’s ok because her boyfriend jaehyun knows how to cook and he brings over groceries after stopping by the corner store after his last class and he makes her masterchef worthy dishes because it’s what she deserves
@nochanchu :: miss mel is the girl you bump into in the bathroom of the club you’re at to celebrate your friend’s birthday. there’s no other place better for an instant girl bond than there LOL you’re halfway drunk and she’s tipsy as heck, but you notice the super pretty eyeshadow she has on and you compliment her on it, and her eyes light up and she’s telling you the name and brand of it so you scramble to take out your phone to take note of it, and then she notices that you have a picture of a well known place from your hometown as your phone wallpaper, and she’s like hold up pause you’re from there too??? And then the two of you swap stories and favorite restaurants and it’s so funny because out of all the people to meet, you meet someone from back home out here. and you realize she could’ve been one of your friends when you were younger because there were actually so many opportunities where your paths would’ve crossed, but they didn’t— not until now, in a funky, neon lit club bathroom in nyc all because your friends decided on a spontaneous bday trip and because she and her boyfriend hyuck came out here to celebrate their anniversary. you swap numbers with her because she has this to die for restaurant that she wants to recommend, but can’t remember the name of at the moment, and six months later, it becomes the go-to brunch place for you and her on your weekly friend dates :’)
@eggyukhei / @hyoseobie :: tk is the girl you randomly sit next to on the first day of internship training. she’s dressed neatly in a pretty maroon blouse with tori burch flats and looks way more put together than you will ever be. you’re already a day behind on training since the internship started on the day you had your last finals and you were unable to actually go on the first official day. you’re haphazardly pulling out the laptop from the company backpack filled with electronics and other important paperwork that the recruiters handed to you earlier and trying to figure out how to log in. she takes pity on your not too tech savvy self, even though this job is literally in IT, and shows you that your login info is clipped to the front of one of the folders in the company backpack. you make some sort of meme reference as you thank her and are pleasantly surprised when her eyes light up because she understands the meme and even thinks you’re funny. you start discussing other memes excitedly while you both wait for the instructor to begin, and to think, if you never sat next to the girl with the stylish pretty glasses, you wouldn’t have made one of the nicest friends you ever had. bonus: at your out of state weeklong training, some loud intern named yukhei invites you to this bar with all the other interns for $1 shots and you force her to go with you instead of staying in the hotel room and watching anime. he tries to get her to dance with him all night, but she keeps getting distracted by the cute college bartender named doyoung who makes her a shirley temple on the house
@latetaektalk :: linh is the pretty freshman girl in the poetry elective class you decided to take on a whim. it’s a lower division class, so there’s only a few other upperclassmen in here who are taking it as a grade booster. the professor pairs you up for the quarter, and you have to dissect a different assigned poem each week together. you end up meeting on the third floor of the business building every thursday and sit out on the balcony with your laptops and poetry books. during the first week, she texts you if you want anything from the boba shop she’s stopping by beforehand, and soon enough, she’s memorized your order, while you always make sure to bring her a freshly baked chocolate croissant from the cafe on the first floor. by the time you’re finished with each assignment, the sun is setting, and you both always make sure to snap a couple pictures of it for your insta stories. and even after the class is over, the two of you continue with your weekly boba and croissants ritual for the following quarters and during one of your catch up sessions, she tells you about a cute boy named mark that she met in her calculus class :’)
@aqiaquas :: steph is the older, mega cool, way out of your league girl you meet in kyoto, japan when you’re on a backpacking trip around asia with your friends after graduating uni. out of luck or perhaps fate, you’re seated next to her in this hole in the wall sashimi bar that serves the best sake nigiri you’ve ever had in your entire life. you start talking to her as you wait for your sushi to come, and you find out that she’s travelling alone and has been to so many countries all around the world. she tells you amazing stories about her trips to korea, switzerland, china, and her life back home, and you aspire to one day travel as much as she does. the two of you trade phone numbers, and she joins you when you decide to go visit kinkaku-ji and walks through fushimi inari taisha with you until you’re off to the next country with your friends. you continue to keep in touch with her and she sends you postcards from every place she visits with the coolest anecdotes and fun facts she learned about the place, and you carefully pin them all up on your wall amongst your paintings and other knickknacks you collected. and one day, you receive a postcard from her of the gyeongbokgung palace and on the bottom is scribbled: p.s. i met a boy. his name is jeno ♡

He asks himself as he struggled opening the door of his house. He was your cute neighbor and schoolmate. He scratched the back of his head as he tries kicking his front door down.
"Minho?"
You wondered why he looked like he was struggling while opening his own house's door. Did he just... lock himself out of his own house? You were too embarrassed to even talk to him or make eye contact with this handsome dude.
"Not today, Y/N."
You told yourself before rapidly and awkwardly walking towards your house. You felt pressured and you don't even know why you feel like it. Then, he notice you and your oddly fast awkward walking.
"Hey, Y/N!"
Well, how can he know your name when you're in different sections? You're caught by your crush, Minho, and you feel like you're going to faint if he ever comes closer to you. He, then, approaches you with a smile and also... the light blush on his cheeks.
"Hi? How are you?" "So... We're neighbors, right? I kinda need your help..." "Sure, what's up?" "I locked myself out of my house and I don't even know where my keys are..."
Minho shyly says with an awkward smile, his blush growing deeper. Wow, isn't the universe just playing with your feelings now? You can't even look at him!
He's way too handsome for your eyes to see.
"Well... I don't know but we can call your parents, right?" "... I actually can but there's a higher chance that they will not appear on time. They're like hours away from here. I actually don't know what to do now." "I don't know what to do, too... Let's try to think about doing something until one of us makes a decision-" "Actually, I have a better idea."
Minho smiles as he excitedly says,
"Come with me and help me with my homework before Mom comes back!"
Minho sits on the steps in front of his door with a smile on his face. You found this situation odd. If he can call his parents, then his parent can at least know what was happening? Yet, he wants to finish his homework with you.
But really, what's the point of declining his offer? He's literally your crush.
"What's your homework about?" "Well, uh... It's about Math and-" "Oh, no. I'm not really good at Math." "... Well, fuck. What do we do now?"
Minho asks, his frustration coming out through his words. You were surprised because of it. Minho cursing? You've never heard of that before and now you just did. You wondered if Minho was ever aware of how attractive he is.
"Uhh..." "... Oh? Oh, sorry for my bad mouth... I'm dumb sometimes..." "... Can I ask you a question?" "Sure, what's up?" "How did you know my name? Yeah, I know we're going to the same school but you're like... pretty freaking popular?" "... I'm popular? You may have mistaken that-" "Minho, every student talks about you in every section..."
You said with a slight frown. Minho was confused, he never really had a lot of friends like the popular ones and he was never really in a friend group. He tilted his head and frowned back.
"Well, why though?-" "They call you handsome and talented... Stuff like that?" "... Oh, I see. It's because I dance, isn't it?" "Definitely." "... Well, I knew you when I accidentally spilled coke on your shirt during the sports thing-" "Wait... That was you?!" "Yes! Also, you're my neighbor, I see you around this block a lot and my parents talk to your parents sometimes. Mom would also usually tell me to try and make friends with you but I'm too dumb."
You both awkwardly laughed. This was like the feeling when your first boyfriend asked you out for prom. Sadly, that ex moved to a different country and got a different girl now.
Now, it's like it's the same thing but different.
"Well, since now I told you about it... It just makes me think how clumsy I am? I'm a dancer, I'm not supposed to be clumsy!-" "Do you fall on the floor when you dance?" "... No?" "Good because I fell on the floor and hit my left cheek during my first ever try-outs in volleyball in like... seventh grade, Minho..." "Wait, you were the one I brought to the clinic?!" "You're the one who brought me to the clinic?!"
You both laughed once again, both of you more comfortable. When you looked into each others eyes, you felt breathless. One thing you didn't know is that he felt breathless, too.
"S-So, uhh... Let's listen to some music? I have a bomb ass playlist that you might like..." "I'm more into chill but sure!" "... Actually, I'm really sorry for the coke spilling incident. You had to play all sports with a different shirt and seeing you wearing a black shirt out of all the players wearing white ones made me feel uneasy." "It's alright, Minho. At least I was wearing one of the varsity shirts."
You smiled and he was feeling breathless once again. To distract himself, he opens his bag wider and gets his phone from it. He pulls out one of his bluetooth earbuds and wipes it with alcohol before handing it to you.
"Shall we listen? You know, I have plenty of chill songs for slow and dramatic choreography. You can listen to that if you want." "I can listen to anything you want to listen to. My music taste is pretty diverse."
You replied while giving him a smirk jokingly. Minho smiled and played the song. Apparently, the song is called District 9 and you felt like there was straight up rave in your ears.
You loved the song even though it's not "chill".
"Well... That's just really cool, Minho!" "I told you... My playlist is the bomb." "I guess you're just as cool as your playlist-" "You're awesome, Y/N. I really have no words..."
Why did he call you awesome when the two of you just interacted today?
"I'm awesome? Don't you-" "Yeah... Wait, do you think I talk to girls?" "... Duh? Literally, everyone in my class talks about you smiling at them-" "Well, I only smile but I don't talk! You're probably the only girl I talked to... Oh! And the female teachers because I usually get in trouble..." "... What trouble?" "Misplacing my homeworks because I don't really get enough sleep." "Oh... Well, then. At least it's not too bad? I usually miss my assignments when I have upcoming... games and such?" "Wow, you're such a jock."
Minho jokingly scoffs as you have him a small smile. The two of you looked up to see the sky as you both noticed that the clouds started turning grey. It was about to rain and the two of you might get sick if you don't go under a roof.
"Looks like it's about to rain... We should go somewhere, Minho." "I don't even get why I'm stuck outside but sure, let's go somewhere else..."
You guessed that the universe is giving you a chance to talk to him longer and you just had to do it.
"We can go at my place if you want? Unless, you wanna get sick-" "Sure! I'll go with you... Are your parents home?" "No one's at home... No boys allowed upstairs, Minho-" "I KNOW THAT!"
Minho whines as both of you went together to your house before it finally starts raining. You and Minho sat beside each other on your couch as you turned on the TV. Minho looks at you with such judgement.
"What?" "... You still watch TV shows ON THE TV?" "... Yes? So?" "So?! Well, Y/N. That's just so unusual! Everyone literally watches shows and dramas using their laptops-" "So, you're telling me that taking care of my eyes is unusual?" "... Oh... I didn't think of that."
Minho awkwardly admits as the two of you laughed once again. Before interacting with Minho, you always thought that he was such a cool guy and that he's always serious. Now that you interacted with Minho, he's actually an awkward dork who's very nice and very talented.
Now, your crush on him got even bigger.
"Well, I kinda have to ask something. Do you have a strong internet connection?" "My Wi-Fi is actually good enough... What are you gonna do with it?" "I have to email my dance coach that I can't send the choreography video tonight... I can send the video tomorrow, though. Wi-Fi password, please."
Minho says while raising both of his eyebrows, convincing you to give him the Wi-Fi password.
"Give me your phone-" "What? No!" "Do you want the Wi-Fi or what?" "Just give me a minute!"
Minho seemed suspicious. What was he hiding from you? If it was porn then you wouldn't really care about it.
"GIVE ME THE PHONE!" "NO!"
Minho loudly disagrees as you snatched his phone from his hand. The thing was his phone was already unlocked so it's easier for you to just enter the Wi-Fi password in the Settings app. Then, you noticed who was his wallpaper.
It was you.
"Uhh..." "I can explain... I purposely tried having subtle interactions with you... You're really cool and I love the way you play volleyball in the varsity. You're just cool and I'm a... I'm actually a big fan of you."
What? Did he really just say this to the person who has a crush on him? The universe really is giving you all the good luck right now!
Those embarrassing moments you had during important school events led to this?! It started from the moment you fell on the ground and hit your cheek during try-outs. The second one? When he "accidentally" spilled coke on your shirt. Now, when he actually locked himself out of his house.
"Oh, come on. Just say that you have a crush on me!"
You joked but he didn't smile or laugh. He snatches his phone from your hands and puts it on the kitchen counter. Yes, the two of you were in the kitchen now because of all the running.
"Yeah, I like you a lot... but please don't misunderstand the whole "locking myself out" situation. I literally did lock myself out because I'm dumb and awkward with literally everything." "... So, you really locked yourself out of your house?" "Yep... Sorry for the inconvenience, I guess..."
The silence that filled the room was your opportunity to tell him that you do have the biggest crush on him.
"I like you, too..." "... Wait, what?-" "Yeah, yeah. Mock me all you want, Minho. How can you not notice that I have a crush on you, too?" "I don't... I don't know? You didn't tell me anything, ma'am." "... Well, I've had a crush on you since I saw you compete in a dance battle for the sports event at school... You're also cool and you really know a lot of stuff. Plus! You're intelligent except for the Math homework..." "Yeah, I can't understand the Math homework at all... But, do you really think that... I'm cool?" "Well, yeah! Although, you looked pretty blunt when I see you came home earlier... Why is that?"
Minho sighs when you asked him that question.
"Well, that's because a lot of guys at school didn't really want to be friends with me." "How so? 'Cause you're much awesome than them?" "It's because all of their girlfriends were always talking about me and they want me to stay away from everyone at school basically-" "What the fuck? Thank god, I broke up with my ex." "... YOU HAVE AN EX?!
Minho was shocked, it was because he never had a girlfriend before in his whole life. He was too busy with academics and dancing that he just never had time for relationships. You, however, were also focused on doing your best at everything you can do well in.
It basically means that you can do everything amazingly because you're pretty much interested with doing every single activity.
You had a boyfriend because you both had "feelings" for each other at the time but as time goes by, both of you grew out of it.
"Why are you so surprised?! Every senior high school student probably has an ex?" "... I don't..." "... Wait, you don't?" "Yeah, I seriously don't..."
Then, silence filled the room once again. You felt your heart beating faster because of the awkward silence. Minho looks around before looking back at you.
Then, your awkward ass asked.
"Hey... What if we... try?" "... Try what?" "You know? Go out on a date sometime?" "... Isn't this already a date? Because it really feels like a date to me, Y/N."
He replied while gazing into your eyes, making you blush and look away.
"Well, then. Do you want to have a second date?" "Sure. Why would I say no to my crush?"
He answers again with this handsome smile. You literally squealed a little so that he wouldn't find you weird. The universe really loves giving you all the luck this time.
After a while, Minho showed that he really isn't that smooth. He literally squealed excitedly like how girls do after their crushes talk to them. You liked this side of Minho.
He really is cute.
Then, you remembered something.
"Don't you need the Wi-Fi password?" "Yeah, I do. Please type it..." "Look, if we ever start officially dating each other... then, I may have to give you my Wi-Fi password-" "Then, I may have to convince you into dating me because... you're just so cool and perfect." "Work hard on that, Minho."
Then, his phone rang. Minho's mother was calling him. Minho made this uneasy face before answering the call.
"Hey, Mom-" "Where are you?! It's past seven o'clock and you're not even home yet! The lights are turned off and the door is still closed-" "I got locked out, Mom! I couldn't find my keys-" "The spare keys were in the mailbox like I told you earlier!" "Why were the keys in the mailbox?!" "WE DON'T HAVE A MAILMAN! Minho, you better come home now. Where are you?" "... I'm at Y/N's-" "At Y/N's?! I'll be there, sweetie."
The way Minho's mother mood just changed that quick shocked Minho a lot. Your doorbell rang and the two of you were nervous. First of all, your parents don't know that you were alone with Minho in your house.
Second of all, you broke the "no boys allowed" rule.
You opened the door to see Mrs. Lee smiling at the two of you.
"Good evening, Mrs. Lee..." "Good evening to you, too. Did the two of you have fun together?"
You didn't know how to answer because you were nervous. That's literally your crush's mom talking to you. Minho notices that you couldn't answer so he answered instead.
"We became good friends, Mom..." "Well, that's great! Maybe we can have dinner together with your family next week, Y/N!"
His mother excitedly says as you sighed before smiling at her. You were really nervous.
"Of course, Mrs. Lee. We can have dinner with you..." "Thank you, dear! Well, Minho and I have to go home and eat dinner now. See you next week at our house!"
Minho's wrist was grabbed forcefully by his mother as he awkwardly waved a goodbye to you.
"Are you dating her now, Minho?-" "No, Mom!"
- SCHOOL : 5:30 PM -
"Look at her. She's so chubby and just so annoying to look at! Ugh..."
One of the cheerleaders started talking about you. Well, you weren't really insecure about yourself because you know that you're really good in sports. But sometimes, these girls are a bit too much.
"You know I can hear you, right?" "Yeah? And so?" "Man, don't test me. I work out."
Saying those words make you feel confident about yourself. So what if you're a bit chubby and a bit built? Everyone should be unique and these mean cheerleaders should know that a tiny waist is conventionally "sexy and fit".
"So, you're gonna play a game with the boys again? You're like a boy yourself, Y/N. That's why your boyfriend broke up with you. You're too manly!"
Now, that just hit you. It hit you differently and you can say that... it hurts. That specific insult hurt your feelings a lot.
Before you can even reply, you saw Minho running down the gym. He was warming up and exercising since he'll be competing in a dance contest that will be held in a different school. He was the dance representative of your school.
You also just finished training so that you could join the line up for the game in that same school Minho will compete in.
"Hey!" "Hi, Minho!"
The cheerleaders said in unison and you just felt like facepalming. They just made you feel ashamed of yourself and your body and now they're flirting with Minho because he said a "Hey!"? For clarification, that "Hey!" was meant for you.
"Uh... Hi to you, too? Anyways... Y/N, do you have an extra slot?" "You're talking to Y/N?!"
The one who humiliated you asked Minho, she couldn't believe that he's talking to you instead of them. Again, Minho never talked to any girl at school because he was awkward and their boyfriends told him not to do so.
"Am I talking to you? No..." "How can you talk to her when I'm the one sending you letters and gifts everyday?!" "She's literally my neighbor..."
Minho mumbles with a frown and sighed, he was clearly annoyed.
"Your boyfriend told me not to talk to you and now I can see why."
Minho was sassy this time and you never knew that. You chuckled and organized your bag. Minho looked at you and he felt bad.
He didn't know that the person he looks up to was being bullied by cheerleaders everyday. You were only popular among the varsity guys because you're such an ace. You're literally good at everything.
"Anyways... Hey, Y/N! Do you have an extra class this hour?" "Extra class? I don't have one actually. My schedule is just organized the way it should be-" "Great! I'll eat dinner with you tonight... Also, I'll be cooking-" "You cook?!" "Duh? Anyways, I'll be changing. Wait for me outside the locker room!"
Minho excitedly said as he skips his way to the boys' locker room. You were left alone with cheerleaders and... it was just straight up uncomfortable. Then, Minho stopped midway.
He realized that you were in need of help.
"Damn it, Minho."
He mumbled and sighed before running to the gym once again. He's literally drenched in sweat and he might get a cold if he doesn't change his shirt immediately. Then, he sees you crying on the floor.
Why were you crying? The girls insulted you more and even called you names. They even threw a lot of stuff at you, either food or drinks.
Either way, you felt like shit.
"Y/N! Y/N, hey..." "Why is this my body? Why am I not like them? Minho... I don't know... I really don't know where I went wrong-" "It's because you never went wrong! You're just... yourself! And that's okay!-" "No, it's not!... This is why Jaehyun broke up with me... I'm such a loser-" "But you're not!"
Minho sighs as he zips your backpack open and picked up a towel. He, then, wipes your face with the spare towel. You were surprised that he, the ace of talent, would wipe your face and shoulders splattered with food and sodas.
"Look... You're not a loser, Y/N. Don't you know that? Every member in the varsity teams, either talent stuff or sports stuff, talks about you! Be thankful that they talk about you and how you're literally good in everything rather than just your appearance... You're more than whatever they think you are, Y/N. Please know that..."
Minho reminds you while he wipes the mess away. He sighs because he extremely hates this type of situation especially humiliation. He wanted to get back at the cheerleaders.
Minho would literally throw the same types of food they threw at you.
"Hey, Minho?" "Yes?" "... Thanks... Thanks for being here for me." "I know that... well... you got lonely after Ryujin and Yeji moved schools. You're still in touch with them, right?" "Yeah, I'm still in touch with them. I'm glad you asked me about that..."
You smiled, Minho was really caring for you. Then, he remembered about what you said about your ex boyfriend. He didn't want to bring back the past if the past still hurts you but he was just genuinely curious about the ex thing.
"Hey, I have a question..." "Sure. What is it?" "... What happened between you and Jaehyun?" "Tsk, that? Well, nothing much... We crushed on each other, we dated each other for months and months, then he had to move somewhere else in the globe because of his interest in a specific school... and then, I waited and waited for him to come back... Then, I realized that he has a new girl and that he told me I was just a 'fling'... I don't really care if he left me like that it's just that I don't want that to happen again."
You explained and he was both annoyed and confused. If you and Jaehyun dated for months and he suddenly says you're just a fling then... it was a one sided relationship, right? Minho couldn't believe it.
He couldn't believe that someone would just ghost you like that and then tell you that you were just a fling without any explanation.
"He just... told you off like that?" "Yes... Not even in a phone call, man. Just a blunt ass text message... I just don't want to be hurt like that again." "... Well, you won't be... I'm here now..."
Minho tried convincing you and you couldn't look away from his gaze. You didn't want to trust anyone this quick because you don't want your feelings to be smashed and thrown away like it was nothing again.
"... Let's go home. We wouldn't want to be late for dinner." "Yep, I'm pretty hungry... You'll cook for us, right?" "Absolutely. I really need to please your parents or I may not have you and I really don't want that to happen." "Damn... You like my awkward ass this much?" "Yeah, especially that a-" "Shut it."
You interrupted Minho because it was... well... making you blush and making your heart pound faster. He stood up from the floor while you fixed your unorganized backpack. Minho notices this as he lends you a hand.
"Let's have dinner, Y/N."
He smiles as you held his hand and stood up from the floor, walking with him until you reached your house.
"Hey, I forgot to change my clothes. I'll be changing first before we have dinner..." "Oh? Sure! It's fine. I'll be changing into... not messed up clothes..."
You joked as the two of you awkwardly went into your houses. As soon as Minho closes the door, he yelled a "Yes!" as his parents looked at him weirdly. Then, his mother finally realized why he yelled excitedly.
"Minho? Dear, do you... like Y/N?-" "Me?!- Of course not!- She's a!... She's a friend! And my neighbor!-" "Oh, shut it. Your dad and I know that you like this girl and we will support it if the two of you will... well... date!" "... Ugh, fine. Yes, I do really like her a lot." "Minho, you silly boy. You have to at least give her something if you're courting her!"
His mother suggested as he frowned, thinking of what he could give you. He literally is an ace but he really doesn't know how to court the girl he likes. He has literally never courted anyone at all in his whole life!
"... Is a dance piece good enough?-" "No! What I meant is like... flowers? Chocolates? You know, the type of things that girls will usually swoon over..." "... But Y/N will probably find it weird. She's an ace in everything... kinda like me but she's more on the sports side." "... Well, I suggest you ask your lovely father about courting! Get some advice from him, Minho..."
His mother smiled at him as Minho smiled back, running upstairs to his room later. He yells again in excitement before changing into a semi-formal shirt and some jeans to go with. He was nervous because this is the first time he will ever do this type of thing.
He finally went downstairs after his mom and dad waited for him to get dressed.
"Ready, son?" "Yes, Dad. I'm kinda ready now..."
Minho nervously says as the family finally went to your house. You and your parents almost argued before Minho's family ever came into your house. The argument?
"Minho's planning to court you and you're wearing a basic white shirt? That's not even a casual shirt, Y/N. That's literally one of your varsity shirts last year-" "But Mom! This shirt is literally more comfortable and Minho might find me weird if-" "NO BUTS, Y/N. Change your shirt at least before Minho arrives! At least I know that Minho's parents are good and that Minho is a good guy unlike your last boyfriend-" "I KNOW THAT, MOM."
You said as you rolled your eyes and rushed upstairs, changing your clothes last minute. You came downstairs wearing a pink shirt and black jeans. Your mother shook her head, you looked too casual for a semi-formal dinner with Minho's rich ass parents.
However, you father thought you looked beautiful. Why? Because he saw how happy and excited you were.
This was the first time you've ever been this happy since your relatonship with Jaehyun ended.
"Good evening, Mrs. L/N." "Welcome, Minho!"
Your mother excitedly greeted Minho and his family. Both of you were nervous as hell. First of all, a boy courting you right now is a first time experience even your ex boyfriend didn't court you. Jaehyun literally straight up told your mom he loved you and your family ended up having a fight with Jaehyun.
"I'm really excited to cook for all of you tonight. I've been wanting to do this for like... ages, Mrs. L/N." "Well, Minho. I think you're not so different from what Y/N tells me about you." "... She talks about... me?" "Of course, dear! She always does!"
You were embarrassed and you finally facepalmed after a while. Minho takes a look at you, giving you a small and quick smirk before looking back to your mother. Your mother really exposed you in front of your crush.
"Well, Mrs. L/N. Our son talks about her a lot, too. He talks about how "fun" and "easy-going" her personality is almost everyday. He doesn't get tired of talking about her and I'm really glad that Minho is enjoying his time with Y/N."
His father said, being proud that his son finally got out of his comfort zone to meet new people and is enjoying his time with you. Minho facepalmed, he was embarrassed. His cheeks? So red.
"Well, Mrs. L/N. I would love to cook for tonight's dinner! I've been planning this since... since my mother planned this... dinner!" "Oh, that's delightful! The kitchen is over there at the back-" "Sure, thanks."
Minho rambled as he grabbed the basket full of ingredients and walked to the kitchen awkwardly. Your parents don't even know that Minho stayed in your house for a few hours since that day he got locked out of his house. Surprisingly, his "intimidating" parents didn't alarm your mother.
Why? Because they want you to be Minho's first girlfriend.
"Oh, Mom? I'm gonna go help Minho cook-" "Do you even cook, Y/N?" "... I do! I cooked pasta once!-" "You burnt the pasta because you didn't put water in it-" "MOM, I'M GONNA HELP MINHO."
You angrily rambled, making your way to the kitchen already. You tapped Minho's shoulder and he just stared at you for a few seconds. He found you beautiful.
"Hey, can you tell your parents-" "Oh, don't worry. My mother promised me not to tell your parents I got here HA-" "Oh, thank god. I was literally gonna flip the table if your parents told them..." "... You can do that, right?" "Do what?" "... Flip the table-" "Yeah, I can but that's not the point! Anyways..."
You breathed in deeply. You can finally tell Minho your iconic pun. Minho, even if he really is very much in love with you, rolls his eyes whenever you tell him your puns.
But you've been waiting to tell him this pun.
"What's cookin', good lookin'?" "... I swear to god, I'm gonna throw you across the room if you don't stop doing that-" "Well, you gotta stop mentioning how you like my a-" "Can you shut it?!"
Minho was either giggling or panicking. Maybe both at the same time. You looked at the recipe and you didn't even understand one thing.
"So... you really cook this type of stuff?" "Yeah! Cooking is one of my hobbies because I dance a lot so I need to eat a lot, too." "... Actually, that's a fact. When your body is like always active with sports and stuff, you gotta eat a lot. I don't even know what the cheerleaders do to themselves..." "... What do you mean?" "Don't you know the "cheerleader diet" they do every single day? I don't know but I kinda think that's a bit unhealthy if they're dieting everyday. Shame on that female gym teacher who mostly choreographs the cheer dances..." "... Yeah... Shame on that bitch."
Minho says with a frown as the two of you rolled your eyes at the same time. Yes, most of the cheerleaders might've been bullying you lately but nobody deserves to be THAT restricted in their own CHOICE OF EATING. Minho lays all the ingredients on the kitchen counter one by one.
"You know, I really cook well and all of my dishes taste good but I don't really cook for others except my family..." "... And, why do you wanna say that?" "Because this is basically one of my ways in treating you and your family... well... like mine, too!
You were surprised. It seemed that Minho was really serious about you. Well, he really is serious about you and he wouldn't let anyone break your heart again.
"You know, I can't cook... I literally can't cook..." "How so?" "... So like I was trying to cook pasta once and I burnt it..." "... You BURNT pasta?! How do you burn pasta-" "I forgot to put water-" "You forgot TO PUT WATER?!... I swear, I'm going to cook for you once we become... well?" "... Oh, shut it!-" "But I'm just telling you the truth! I really like you and I want to be with you..."
You couldn't even reply without the tendency of stuttering. Minho winks and smirks before focusing in cooking. Basically, all you did was hand him bowls, spoons, and such.
After he finishes cooking, the two of you came back with the dish. He cooked some fajitas because he wanted to cook something that isn't a Korean dish. The six of you sat in one dinner table, his parents facing yours as the two of you faced each other.
"So, Minho. Y/N told us that you dance very well, right?" "Oh? Oh, I dance but I'm not that good-"
You interrupted him, your mouth filled with food.
"Hey, shut it. You're really amazing at dancing, Minho. Don't even try denying that."
You joked as he smiled at you. Although, both of your parents didn't get the joke. Minho's parents thought that you were a bit rude since you interrupted him while speaking.
"My son was speaking?" "... Oh... Mom, it's just a part of our jokes. Please don't take it the wrong way. We just play around like this..."
Minho looked very frustrated and nervous. You were more nervous than Minho. Imagine if his parents dislike you because of a simple inside joke the two of you do everyday.
"Oh? Is that so? Oh, lord. I don't understand kids these days... Anyways, Minho told us that you're good in every sport? Am I right?" "Oh, me? I'm not really that good in every sport. I'm just an average-"
Now, Minho does the same to you.
"What the heck are you saying, Y/N? Don't even try to deny the fact that you're the greatest female player AND CAPTAIN at varsity. You're literally an ace and you can't change my mind otherwise..."
Minho jokes as both his and your parents stared at him. When he noticed everyone staring at him, you couldn't look at him straight without chuckling. You facepalmed instead, holding back your laughter because everything that's happening at the moment was getting more awkward each second.
"... See? It's our type of humor, Mom."
Minho awkwardly laughs as you sighed, facepalming once again. This might be the most awkward dinner scene in every awkward dinner scene. Your father sighed before taking a bite of Minho's fajitas.
"... This actually tastes incredible!" "Oh, Mr. L/N. Our son cooks well and he's great at it." "Now, I can see why our dear daughter says he's an ace. He's good at everything! Imagine also being good at cooking, right?"
It was great that your father appreciated Minho's cooking. Minho sighed in relief, giving you a smile after it. He was really nervous around your parents and you wanted to talk him out of his nervousness.
He can fake confidence! He's a performer after all.
"Hey, uh... We're just gonna talk into the kitchen, Mom. You guys have fun..."
You smiled as you pulled Minho's wrist, dragging him into the kitchen. He breathes out heavily, putting his hand on his chest. You were surprised.
He really was this nervous?
"Well, aren't you really nervous?" "Shut up, Y/N. I'm literally shaking... What if your parents don't like me? What do I fucking do?-" "Look, Minho. We aren't even together yet. Just do your best, I'm pretty sure they're gonna like you- Wait, fuck. What if YOUR parents don't like ME?" "... But they do! I'm sure they do like you. We can invite them for the year-end sports event! My parents can see an ace play every type of sport without failing!" "... That's actually a good idea! Then, my parents can see an ace dance amazingly on stage." "... Pshh, shut up..."
Minho rolls his eyes and tries hiding the faint blush on his cheeks by turning his back on you. Then, you finally realized that the both of you had to go back to the dining room and eat with each others' parents. To make him blush once again, you held his hand surprisingly.
"We should probably eat now... Let's go?"
The horrified look on his face made you smile as his cheeks blushed deeper.
"Are you being embarrassed because I'm holding your hand-" "I swear to god, I'm gonna throw myself." "... Okay but don't do that, Minho." "Lol, I won't..." "... This is a verbal conversation-" "Shut up and let's go."
Minho sighs, feeling nervous once again but because you held his hand... he felt cute and comfortable. Both of you went to the dining room. Minho didn't feel nervous anymore.
The night went great between your family and his family.
- YEAR-END SPORTS EVENT : 12:00 PM -
"Alright, team. We can do this. It's just basketball. It's our specialty, alright?" "Yes, captain."
The members said in unison. It was probably vaguely detailed since you were always called an "ace" in this story but you're actually the captain. Yes, THE captain of every SPORT.
That's how much of an ace you were, considering that you're the only girl member of the varsity.
How were you chosen? Most of the boys at school don't really follow the rules despite their strength and skills in different types of sports. You, however, never cheated in a game once and... well... you were just as skillful as your members but you were more determined in "fairness" than "winning". Although, you sucked at your first try-outs in seventh grade because you were panicking.
That's why the coach chose you and you've been the captain for three years already.
"Let's go! Let's go!"
You cheered as all of you went outside the locker room. Earlier, you were at the girls' locker room because you're a girl and you weren't allowed to be in the boys' locker room. However, the coach always texts you when your teammates were done dressing up so that you could enter their locker room.
Now, the show is about to begin in a minute.
This was your last game and you wanted to achieve something as a personal validation.
The audience started cheering as the cheerleaders started dancing. The host started to announce that the game was about to start and that is when you finally cracked your knuckles and rolled back your shoulders a bit. Of course, you were nervous but also excited at the same time.
The Basketball captain from the other team asked,
"Which one of y'all is the captain?"
The members pointed to you as you raised your hand.
"Well... That's funny... Good luck to your girly team, Cap!" "... Yeah. I think we'll do good so watch your back."
You answered as the host blew the whistle and everyone started cheering for different types of names. You weren't in the first line up so you had time to start cheering for your members.
Then, your phone buzzed as you looked at the notification.
It was a text from Minho.
[ "I'm actually shaking in my seat. Do well!" - Minho ]
You smiled as you watched the first set of the game finished. Well, it was great that your team won. The captain of the other team was seen clearly annoyed.
"You're not winning this game, girly." "What did I tell you? Oh, yeah. Watch your back."
You scoffed, you turn into a different person when some irresponsible captain tries dragging your team because your team's captain is a girl. Your coach runs up to you. It looked like he was about to say something important.
"Y/N, we're saving you for the third set." "But coach, what if someone gets hurt? Their captain was being an ass and-" "..." "... Oh, I'm sorry for my language but I have a gut-feel that someone might get hurt." "No one is gonna get hurt, Y/N. You are our ace and we need you to play for the last game." "... Fine but if someone gets hurt during the second set, I will have to be the substitute for them."
You told your coach as he nodded. The second set starts and guess what happened? The asshole captain purposely "bumped" into Jisung as Jisung fell on the ground. You were full of anger and disappointment.
That fucking bitch ass captain.
The host started yelling for time-out. Literally four minutes into the second set and this happens. You felt bad for Jisung, this was everyone's last game before graduating.
The other school's coach decided to have a pep-talk as your coach did the same. You were worried for Jisung's health.
"Hey, Jisung-" "I'm fine, Cap. It hurts a bit but-" "I'm substituting for you in this game, okay? I'm gonna talk to that bitch after this, okay?" "Oh, my god. Thank you so much, Y/N! You're literally the best..."
Jisung smiled at you as the school nurse came in to treat Jisung's minor injury.
You were up for the next game. The moment Minho saw you, he remembered the first time he watched you play. This time, the whole vibe was different.
"Go, Y/N!"
Minho's and your parents yelled. Minho couldn't yell because he was nervous. He was worried for your health because he just saw the other captain push Jisung to the ground. Jisung was one of the guys that Minho doesn't have "beef" with.
The game starts as you made eye contact to the ball and the spacious surroundings only. The wind blows your hair quite perfectly as it purposely lets you pay attention to every players' moves. You felt that the rude captain was going to push you.
You didn't even dodge but you did something unexpected.
"What are you seriously doing?!"
You yelled, slapping his hand away using your empty hand. This scene caught everyone's attention, even the players' eyes were glued at you and that rude captain. The captain scoffed, showing that he was annoyed.
The table judges were annoyed, too.
"Yes, sir?" "Disqualify the group." "Which one?" "This one."
The table judge pointed at the team.
"Daejeon Gwanjeo High School is now disqualified for the basketball game."
The host announced at the same time you dunked the ball in the hoop, winning the second set. The students who were from Cultural Tech High were shocked in disbelief that their basketball team was disqualified. The table judges smiled, they've noticed the "pushing" incident from the first set.
"Congratulations to Gimpo Jeil Technical High School for winning the year-end Basketball game!"
The host happily announced as the majority of the audience cheered. Although, the Daejeon students thought that it was unfair. It wasn't unfair because they were the ones who stopped during the game and all you had to do was dunk the ball.
And, you did that.
"Oh, my god..."
You breathed out, relieved that you won the LAST game you'll ever be in this school. Your teammates ran towards you, carrying you on their shoulders and cheering for you as your coach gave you the trophy. You felt so much joy that you started crying.
Imagine being able to withstand all of the insults because you're a girl.
"We did it!"
One of your teammates, Hyunjin, cheers in happiness. Minho smiled at the view of you being happy and all emotional. He really felt like running down the stairs from the seats but he was scared for some reason.
He wanted to ask permission from your parents first and he was nervous.
"Um, Mrs. L/N?" "Yes, Minho?" "May I... go with her?" "... Sure. I'm sure she will love that."
Minho didn't know what your mother meant. It means that you love him back and that she's allowing him to finally date you. It also meant that she knows that Minho was the best for you.
Minho smiled at them with sparkling eyes before excitedly running down as fast as he can. The boys finally put you down after numerous "pleading" from you. They were lifting you too high and you were starting to get dizzy from it.
"I'll see y'all later at 5!"
You waved a goodbye at your teammates as they did the same. Your team decided that you should take the trophy home. Why?
It was because you made this last game the best one in their whole lives as high school basketball players.
"Hey, Y/N! Congratulations!"
Minho cheered, he really wanted to kiss you but he still doesn't know if you're already allowed to date him. Before the game even started, your mother told you that if you really love Minho... then you should go for it. Your mother already saw Minho's efforts and she's amazed at how dedicated he is to always bring you home safe, to always bring you flowers, to always visit you and your parents at home, and to always tell your mother that he really loves you and that he could never hurt you the way Jaehyun did.
"Minho..."
You started spacing out, looking at him lovingly. He found it a bit weird that you were just there, smiling at him and admiring him at the same time. You, then, cupped his face and kissed the tip of his nose.
"Hmm?!... Y/N?!-" "Don't you know already?" "... What do I not know already?" "You're really dumb, aren't you?" "..."
Minho stared at you with a confused look. He was thinking about what he doesn't know yet. You sighed because it was taking too long for him to know what it was.
"... Well, then."
You finally kissed him for the first time. His eyes widened at the current situation, clearly surprised that you kissed him. Then, he wraps his arms around your waist.
He finally realized that the two of you are now officially dating.
"We're dating now, right?" "I-... Do you think we're not dating? I literally just kissed you in front of both our parents..." "... Oh, yeah!... So what should we do now?-" "Eat ice cream before your dance contest. Please... I know you want ice cream." "Alright, m'lady."
Minho jokes as he winks and smirks at you. Of course, you swooned. You finally found your second half and made your last year of high school memorable.
That was your last game and a new chapter will unfold.

end of year writing meme
Total Stories Written: 27
Total Words Written: 147413 Average Words Per Story: if you do the mean, then it’s 5,459 Shortest Story: the aftermath of rebirth at 338 words Longest: Paint a New Horizon at 23,673 words
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted?
I wrote fewer stories than I expected, but they were far longer than I expected. I wrote a lot of 11k fics.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write most?
pairing: Sansa/Margaery (throwback to 2015 omg)
genre: I don’t feel like I had a certain genre I wrote a lot of tbh.
fandom: A Song of Ice and Fire
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
THE POKEMON GAMES! Like, oh my god. I wrote fanfiction about soul silver. I wrote fanfiction about POKEMON WHITE. what. the fuck. Like, technically the first fic i ever wrote was about pokemon but i never expected to do it again.
Did you take any writing risks this year?
I wrote 2 very long asoiaf fics about difficult subject matter. Combined, they add up to more than 40 thousand words of fic.
Do you have any fanfic or general writing goals for the new year?
Fanfiction wise, I would like to finish up some of my wips and try to improve.
In general, I would like to figure out more what I want my writing to look like moving forward and how to go about that. I’m experiencing some growing pains, so I need to reassess my style and strategy and see what I need to readjust moving forward.
From the past year of writing, what was your…
Best story of this year: Paint a New Horizon
This feels like a bit of a cop out since it’s the longest, but I am very firmly the most proud of this fic out of anything I wrote this year. I feel like the emotional bits were satisfying, the romance worked nicely, and the action kept me interested in a way that almost never does. I was able to commit to TWENTY THREE THOUSAND WORDS and put my ALL INTO IT! that is. monumental for me. I’ve written long fics in the past, but those were chaptered and frankly, not as good as this one was or as much work.
I love this verse so well that I might actually go back and write more in it later when I have time. I have the beginnings of a sequel ruminating around in my drats.
Most popular story of this year: normally I split this up into multiple categories, but by hits, kudos, OR comment threads The Times They Are a Changin’ comes out on top. The mcu fandom really went nuts over Carol and Maria, didn’t they?
Personal favorite:
Washing Machine Heart is a fic that I hold close to my heart. 1. I wrote this one when I was on a study abroad in Latin America, which is the coolest thing that I have ever done 2. it’s just. really well done. I’ve never written something quite so messy and unpleasant in a realistic way before. It’s ugly in the way that Steven Universe: Future is ugly right now. In exactly the way that “Washing Machine Heart” should imply 3. oh god was it cathartic
Most under-appreciated:
Maternal, Paternal at 71 kudos, I know I shouldn’t call this one “under-appreciated”, but it’s in a few VERY happening tags, in a very happening fandom with a VERY popular set of characters. I’d think that people would be more interested in reading “Endeavor is an asshole and eventually Dabi kills him” but like. it’s whateves I guess XD
Most fun to write:
We Could Be Heroes both semesters that I had during 2019 were. super fucking stressful. the only times that I’ve had that were productive for fic was January break, summer vacation, and December break.
Last April on my birthday, though, I rewarded myself and after I got home from hanging with some friends I just sat down at my laptop and didn’t think about literally anything. I just wrote. I took a format that I knew I liked and didn’t have to think about (talk show format with an OC I already made for a different story) and then 3 characters I was very interested in then (Melissa Shield, Monica Rambeau, and Tahani Al-Jamil) and then I just. ran with it. I wrote and wrote and wrote and it was amazing. I didn’t think about it being good or about my homework or literally anything other than this talk show lady talking to these three cool characters.
It was wonderful. 10/10 would do it again.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
Familiarity. It is literally the only thing I wrote this year with ANY sex in it, so it’s automatically the sexiest. Way to go Margaery you did it.
Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story:
Um. Just Souring Grapes in general.
Most challenging to write:
Biggest disappointment:
Shouto Todoroki Joins the Supervillain Dads Club I hoped to finish this fic last year in January. It’s currently December and I haven’t been able to look at the thing since.
I think it’s mainly because I just lost the drive, but it’s also kind of because wips stress me the fuck out. And also I had 2 stressful semesters so that doesn’t help.  Favorite character to write: my favorite characters to write this year were both Todorokis! Dabi and Fuyumi are both a joy to write, I swear
Favorite opening lines:
Serena falls down at the kitchen table feeling as cold and distant as the room does. The harsh lines and open floor plan were supposed to show a minimalism only possible with wealth, but to Serena it's always felt empty.
A Woman’s Place
Surprisingly, Theon’s life does not change much either way after Maron is taken to the Greenlands. Balon does not magically start paying attention to him, even though he’d prayed every night to the Drowned God that he would.
Pretty Little Thrall
The Twins are a grand fortress spanning the width of the Green Fork. A great stone tower stands on each side of the river, with a greater bridge running in between. The Frey stable boys have taken their horses, and Jeyne walks as close to the river as she dares as they make their way to the tower. She watches the river rush beside her in awe. She’s never seen a river run so wild before. It seems like the very waters rushing beside her want to rise up and drown her themselves.
Good Family
Favorite closing lines:
That's what she gave up fighting the Kree for, and Carol will do everything that she can to bring them back. She's stopped fighting for some things, but she'll never stop fighting for this. If the times don't change on this one, she'll make them. She'll rip that gaudy fucking glove off of that bastard's grape crush colored hand and shove it up his ass if that's what it takes to get her family back.
The Times They Are a Changin’
"Alright, then. Let’s do this together,” you say, “as a team.” You think that you really like this "being friends" thing. Maybe after you beat Red, you and Silver can go to Hoenn- or Sinnoh. Unova even. Somewhere new and exciting with new people to beat. It’s nice to have a partner who’s not a Pokemon, for once. You think that, together, you could be the best trainers that ever lived.
Maybe the best friends too.
no silver medals (when you get the gold together)
The stars spread out above you- the universe expanding outwards onwards and upwards, excelsior.
Excelsior
Other favorite lines:
What does a grape do under pressure? Grapes tend to shrivel in the sunlight. Turn to raisins, actually. She doesn’t remember what poem that was from, but she remembers reading something like that in English class once. Some poem that she didn’t understand really, and might not have gotten even if it were in Japanese. She doesn’t think that’s what she’s doing.
Does it ferment, like wine? Her father always joked about her mother aging like a fine wine, growing more beautiful every year, growing stronger. But Miné isn't gaining strength, not really. Not right now. Maybe she’s just souring, getting more and more bitter about things that she can't have. Maybe she's just souring grapes.
Souring Grapes
“The authorities confirmed that Endeavor was not even in the state during the accident, and Shouto’s doctors confirmed that the burns were consistent with boiling liquid, not an open flame.” Superman looks visibly relieved to hear that.
“But that does not mean that I trust him,” Batman says, “I would prefer to keep an eye on him.”
“Why would you want to keep an eye on him, he’s a superhero ,” Captain Marvel says, with none of The Wisdom of Solomon but all of The Innocence of a Ten Year Old, “that means that he’s a good guy, right?”
Shouto Todoroki Joins the Supervillain Dads Club
The thought stabs into his brain like a needle, like the scent of pine, like the memories he’s never wanted back. Robb was the one person who ever cared about him, and Theon betrayed him to parade around as a prince and become Ramsay Bolton’s broken little toy. He swore himself to the little boy who took him by the hand when he came to Winterfell as a scared little boy and never let go. And then Theon betrayed him.
“Theon,” the trees whisper,” Theon.” The crows in the branches take flight, cawing his name, and he feels something else take flight too. His heart, beating somewhere deep inside his chest.
“Theon,” it throbs, “Theon, Theon.”
He wants to do something, something reckless, something brave. Something that makes him redeemable.
He can’t save Robb, but he can save someone . He can save Robb’s fake sister. Theon can save Jeyne from some of her pain.
If You Believe in Me (I’ll Still Believe)
She dared a glance forward and met Margaery’s eyes- a deep, chocolate brown. They were warm and inviting and Margaery’s little curly bangs framed her face like a heart. Margaery’s head went over the back of the booth and it seemed to almost be floating against the flowery wallpaper. It looked like Margaery was lying out in a field of flowers- the Maiden gazing up at the clouds and trying to make shapes of them.
She could imagine Margaery telling her that this one is a flower, like Tyrell, and this one’s a deer, like Baratheon, and this one’s a dick, like Joffrey. She giggled nervously again and felt her cheeks flush. She’d never felt this giddy and unsteady in her whole life.
“Are you alright, Sansa?” Margaery asked cautiously. She reached across the table and laid a hand over Sansa’s own. The touch was warm and tender, and Sansa felt the blush from her toes to the tip of her head.
“I’m perfect!” Sansa nearly screeched. Margaery laughed at that, but her look was kind.
“Yes, darling,” she said with a smile that was wide and fond, “I think that you are.”
Lesbian. The word wasn’t supposed to fill her with such a warm, hopeful feeling, was it? She wiggled awkwardly in her chair, trying to get situated and stop feeling so silly and excited and vulnerable, but it didn’t fix anything. She felt Margaery’s leg brush against hers under the table. It sent a jolt through her.
Lesbian.
Sansa took a shaky breath. She thought to herself that there might be something to that.

The MCU (So Far) Ranked
With Avengers: Endgame right around the corner now feels like a good time to talk about all 21 films that brought us to this moment.
#21 -  Thor: The Dark World (Alan Taylor)
Tumblr media
Rating - 3/10
Look, there always has to be one.
Thor: The Dark World suffers from the same problem that most bad comic book movies do it is simply forgettable, this is the worst type of film to write about because I have noting to say. Far from being insultingly bad but also far from being any good. Honestly if you ever plan on cramming these films again do yourself a favour and skip this one.
#20 -  The Incredible Hulk (Louis Leterrier)
Tumblr media
Rating - 4/10
You can skip this one too.
The Incredible Hulk is a product of its time, in the late ‘00s this was about as good as action movies not called The Dark Knight got. This one isn’t unwatchable and the bit were The Hulk kicks Tim Roth into a tree is pretty cool but given how little this film has effected the franchise going forward you really wont miss anything by skipping it.
#19 - Iron Man 2 (Jon Favreau)
Tumblr media
Rating - 4/10
I get why they made this movie, but I’d rather they hadn’t.
Iron Man 2 is basically just a teaser trailer for the better movies that were about to come out. This movie consists of boring conversations between Tony Stark and Nick Fury and even more boring scenes with the villains that really kicked of the cliché that these movies have boring villains. The suitcase Iron Man suit is really dope though.
#18 - Ant-Man and the Wasp (Peyton Reed)
Tumblr media
Rating - 6/10
Meh.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is actually pretty good. Paul Rudd is allowed to fully explore his comedic talent making this a very watchable film however the script lacks any focus and it is ultimately difficult to stay invested in anything happening on screen. It’s a mixed bag but it’s pretty fun.
#17 - Thor (Kenneth Branagh)
Tumblr media
Rating - 6/10
Kenneth Branagh made a super-hero movie, this is about as good as that idea could ever have been.
Thor is a surprisingly small movie, revisiting this film now feels slightly strange given what we have since seen of the character. Branagh was always the wrong choice to direct a Marvel movie especially during a time were the studio had far more say than any of their filmmakers. It’s worth revising this film to set up the Avengers but other than that it isn’t anything special.
#16 - Avengers: Age of Ultron (Joss Whedon)
Tumblr media
Rating - 6/10
It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that this movie is just ok.
Avengers: Age of Ultron should be so much better than it is but it ended up being the poster child for when a studio gets cold feet and tries to take over on directors vision. Joss Whedon is an excellent story teller but this does not so off his talents at all. Once again this certainly isn’t a bad film it just isn’t great, there is some good dialogue and the introduction of both Scarlet Witch and Vision is worth seeing.
#15 - Captain America: The First Avenger (Joe Johnston)
Tumblr media
Rating - 7/10
Way more camp than I remember .
Captain America: The First Avenger feels as though it has taken the framework of a more conventional war drama and just thrown in some superhero stuff and I don’t necessarily think that is a bad thing. When this film embraces its campness it can be very entertaining. Chris Evans was a prefect casting choice for Steve Rodgers and this film does go in an unexpected direction by making Captain America basically just a mascot but once again the villain is weak and large sections of the plot are forgettable. Overall worth re-watching it is probably better than you remember.
#14 -  Captain Marvel (Ryan Fleck, Anna Boden)
Tumblr media
Rating - 7/10
I’m sorry, I like this one.
Captain Marvel might be the most controversial film in the whole franchise. I have some grievances with this one, namely lack of any style or originality in the writing or direction but the chemistry between Brie Larson and Samuel L Jackson helps to make this an enjoyable watch. I know you probably don’t agree with me but this is my list and I like this movie, so there!
#13 - Iron Man (Jon Favreau)
Tumblr media
Rating - 7/10
Not as great as I remember but still pretty good.
Iron Man will forever be remembered as a film that changed cinema witch is so weird to me having re-watched it recently. This is a rather slow and somewhat  cliché 2000s action flick with a paper-thin plot. Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Bridges both give it their all and I have nothing but respect for Jon Favreau for turning RDJ’s mad ramblings into a coherent film.
#12 - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (James Gunn)
Tumblr media
Rating - 7/10
I’m still not sure how to take this.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is the most visually stunning film in the MCU, almost every shot could be used as a laptop wallpaper. This also has quite possibly the strongest theming as its story about fatherhood and toxic relationships can bring a tear to your eye if you let it. So it is such a shame that this film is full of jokes that just do not land and weird side plots that feel like set-ups for movies that Marvel would probably never let James Gunn make. I kinda love this movie but this is as high as I can put it on this list.
#11 -  Captain America: Civil War (Anthony Russo, Joe Russo)
Tumblr media
Rating - 8/10
The fight scene though!
Captain America: Civil War is one great fight scene that is all anyone ever wants to talk about. I think the rest of the movie is also pretty good, this was our first look at how the Russo brothers would handle a larger ensemble cast and every character gets the screen time they deserve. Really though the airport fight is amazing!
#10 - Doctor Strange (Scott Derrickson)
Tumblr media
Rating - 8/10
The word Strange is in the title.
Doctor Strange has a remarkably safe plot given the source materiel, although that can all be forgiven given how amazing the visual effects are. This is a very entertaining film mainly for the creative and ingenious uses of special effects. This film can drag a bit but it is worth it to see something that gives the end of 2001 a run for its money.
#9 - Iron Man 3 (Shane Black)
Tumblr media
Rating - 8/10
And you thought my views on Captain Marvel were controversial!
Iron Man 3 is great and I will not change my mind on that. This was the first team up between Robert Downey Jr. and screenwriter/director Shane Black since 2005′s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and it was worth the wait. The dialogue is sharp and the plot with Tony Stark dealing with P.T.S.D. after the events of The Avengers makes for a great character study.
I am aware that the general consensus is that the plot twist sucks but with Ben Kingsley’s fantastic performance and the wonderfully absurd way that it is reveled I can’t help but love it. In all honesty I just to big a Shane Black fan to hate this (the same logic does not apply to The Predator).
#8 - Ant-Man (Peyton Reed)
Tumblr media
Rating - 8/10
I can only image how great the Edgar Wright version of this would have been.
Ant-Man is so much better than people give it credit for. The dialogue is constantly funny and the screenplay is paced perfectly so that the film never has a dull moment even in the quieter character scenes. Moments like the train-set fight and the first time Scott Lang uses the Ant-Man suit are among the best scenes in the whole franchise. Like most people I have to believe that the Edgar Wright version would have been better but I must say that Peyton Reed did a pretty great job piecing what he had together.
#7 - Black Panther (Ryan Coogler)
Tumblr media
Rating - 8/10
Marvel’s little awards season darling.
Black Panther is somehow one of the most important and talked about films of the decade and in all honesty it sort of deserves it. Coogler does what other MCU filmmakers would never do and dives head first into real world political issue, ending his film with a poignant note about free trade and open borders. Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger adds a nuance that is missing in most comic book movies. Overall Black Panther is a breath of fresh air in an over-saturated genre.
P.S that soundtrack is awesome!
#6 - Thor: Ragnarok (Taika Waititi)
Tumblr media
Rating - 8/10
How did this happen?
Thor: Ragnarok is everything I wanted it to be. Taika Waititi is one of the most interesting filmmakers working today and it is great to see a major studio allow such a unique voice to make the exact film that they wanted to without sacrificing their creativity. This is not only one of the best Marvel films but one of the best straight comedies of the decade. I cannot wait to see what Waititi has in store in the future.
#5 - Spider-Man: Homecoming (Jon Watts)
Tumblr media
Rating - 8/10
Things are looking up for Spider-Man.
Spider-Man: Homecoming was my favourite Spider-Man movie up until very recently. This genuinely feels like watching an 80s John Hughes film in the 2010s that also happens to action sequences in it. The scene where Peter Parker and Adrian Toomes are in the car together is brilliantly tense and shows of the dramatic range of both Tom Holland and Michael Keaton. The characters feel real and fleshed out and the breezy feel of the editing brings the world to life through the naive eyes of a young Peter Parker. I honestly can’t believe how good this ended up being.
#4 - Avengers: Infinity War (Joe Russo, Anthony Russo)
Tumblr media
Rating - 9/10
This simply should not have worked.
Avengers: Infinity War is one of the most ambitious films in cinema history. I have so much respect for the Russo brothers for managing to make a film with this many characters and this many plot points feels cohesive and endlessly entertaining. I think the real triumph of Infinity War is how watchable and fun this movie is despite being 2 1/2 hours long, full of characters and constantly hitting you in the face with really depressing stuff. Let’s hope that the Russo brothers can pull of the same trick twice.
#3 - The Avengers (Joss Whedon)
Tumblr media
Rating - 9/10
This movie isn’t given enough credit anyone.
The Avengers was a huge gamble back in 2012 and although it may now feel quaint given the achievement that was last year’s Infinity War Joss Whedon was able change the landscape of blockbuster cinema and make this whole thing possible. Almost every plot point in this film has since become cliché, Whedon and Feige laid out a blueprint for success that no one else has been able to copy since. The Joss Whedon humour and snarky dialogue  helped to pave the way that these characters would interact in the future and his unique approach to  utilizing an ensemble cast makes this film worth revisiting over and over again.
#2 -  Guardians of the Galaxy (James Gunn)
Tumblr media
Rating - 9/10
James Gunn hit the mainstream with a movie about a talking raccoon, I can never complain about the Hollywood system ever again.
Guardians of the Galaxy should not work on most levels but Gunn was just crazy enough to pull it off. The character interactions here rival the Wheadon penned interactions in The Avengers and the Gunn’s direction brings the strange worlds he has created to live in striking ways. Gunn was given a chance to showcase his humour and he ran with it, Guardians goes from dark and meandering to fun and rapidly paced within seconds and it is a complete joy to watch no matter how many times you have seen it.
#1 - Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Joe Russo, Anthony Russo)
Tumblr media
Rating - 9/10
The Russo brothers came out swinging.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is an entertaining, tightly directed, brilliantly acted, fast paced and well edited action film that just so happens to be a squeal to the First Avenger. Many of the best moments in the franchise are in this film including the elevator scene and the fight on the bridge, this film also has great character interactions especially with Steve Rodgers and Nick Fury. This feels like an update on classic James Bond stories with a modern edge, this is everything that a comic book movie could be and I highly recommend checking it out again if you haven’t seen it in a while. There is no question that The Winter Soldier is the best of the MCU.
Franchise Rating - 7.1/10

Donkeys Down Under Part 2
Make sure you start with this blog post, its the first in the series and this is a serial!
In the first post, I started with How We Got Here.  Next up:
Where we are.
We live on Centaurus Road in Hillsborough, Christchurch (not-so-subliminal hint: sending a package will cost you an arm and a leg, but it’ll be worth it to see the smiles on our faces if you include a few packets of Hidden Valley Ranch mix).
Christchurch is the biggest city on the South Island, with a whopping 375,000 people or so  – pretty big considering the whole country is just under 5 million people, and only about 30% of them live on the South Island at all. You can do your own research on the city’s history and geography if you like. The city is big enough to have good restaurants, bars, craft beer, and various forms of mild entertainment like tennis clubs, live music from time to time, exercise options...more cosmopolitan than we expected but super easy navigate and access to surfing beaches, mountains, rivers, lakes, coasts, bike trails.
Our house is perched on the Port Hills, a short walk from the renowned Rapaki Track and a 10 minute drive to Sumner Beach (our regular surfing spot). The house has great views, an extra room for guests, and a lot of character – including:
A bathroom with handmade cat tiles and a shower with a strong homemade underwater motif.
A crazy garden full of roses, really loud birds, the odd hedgehog, and a zillion fruit trees that we don’t know how to manage.  Seriously, you should have seen me and Jason and Anily trying to shake down a tree full of plums without any useful protective gear – next time we’ll get out the ski goggles and helmets.
Tumblr media
A small plant growing up through the living room floor.
A bathroom sink that’s even smaller than the one in our house in Seattle – really!
Checkerboard linoleum floors.
Sailboat wallpaper in one room and the ugliest damn curtains you’ve ever seen in others. Like, mauve. And flowered. Sometimes at the same time.
A fantastic sunroom that is the home of our new ping pong table and our surfboard rack.  Thankfully we did not have to get rid of the college dude vibe we had so carefully cultivated with our basement kegerator, Pacman machine and discarded drum set in the last house; we just evolved it a little -- the NZ version has a slightly more active characteristic. At this point Jason and I won’t be the ones playing the drinking games, but as I like to say, the best thing about being a grown up is giving yourself the permission to buy the toys that let you be the grown up you want to be.  Actually, I will probably never say that again because it’s a lot of words, but I’m committed to the philosophy behind it. More on toys and activities and drinking later.
Tumblr media
The house has a fat deck with views of the Southern Alps
A super steep driveway and very slippery stairs (consider this your warning and legal disclaimer).
You can’t see all the awesome details of the house in the satellite picture, but you can click and then zoom around if you want to see where we’re situated:
Tumblr media
Our house is in a great spot.  It’s an easy bike ride to school and work and a short trip to the best grocery store in town, where you can buy a box of Gorilla Munch cereal for $8 and a small bag of Cheetos for $5 – in the international aisle, of course.  I refuse to document what else is in the American section.  I haven’t broken down and paid for the  Cheetos yet, but Anily really likes to eat Gorilla Munch before school, so, yes, this blog DOES contain a shopping list for things you should put in your extra suitcase when you come to visit (see if you can spot them all).
We feel really lucky to have this house, and there are a few good lessons wrapped up in how we got this place with its weathered wood and tiny sinks and toilets.  One, surely, is not to lean too far for the toilet paper, especially if you can’t count on your core strength.  For not only are the toilets tiny, the seats on them are weak, and butt cheeks can be slippery.  Let’s just say the quality of the toilet seats has been a topic of more than one conversation among the American crew here, and one of us (not saying who) has a story that ends with a minor injury and a full bathroom clean up before coffee.
Anyway, for the real estate buffs out there, here’s how we won the rental house lottery: we landed in CHCH with ZERO idea of where to live and not much of a plan. We’d never been to this city, and luckily we had the sense not to commit to anything in advance.  That’s lesson #2 : it’s just too hard to know the vibe of a place without having feet on the ground, and internet research isn’t reliable for choosing a long-term place to live, so don’t commit if you don’t have to.  Good thing too, since most of what we read online in advance would have had us living on the west side of town, which is pretty much a mall, but of the NZ variety, which – shout out to my SA peeps – is reminiscent of the Central Park Mall in 1987, only without a Spencer’s and sub in a Kmart as the flagship instead of the Jacque Pen-nay’s.
So we got to town, I went to work, and Jason started with schools.  Like many other places, school attendance is based on where you live, though there are schools that have open enrollment.  We got here at the end of the Seattle school year and basically decided to throw the kids right back in school until the summer break, which is December here.   Nice, right? A whole year of school to go with your whole year of winter, love you!  But honestly, it was the best thing for them to start socializing and acclimating without any academic pressure since they were already bored and missing friends after 20+ hours of plane travel and a couple days of down time.  A public school that we’d read about – Cashmere High – had an open day for potential students literally the day after we landed.  Jason took the kids to it, they liked the school, James sank a couple shots in the gym, we saw that surfing and skiing are on offer as school sports, and we immediately focused our energy on finding a place to live in the Cashmere school zone.
Which brings me to another lesson, the most important one, and something I need remind myself of constantly: don’t make it harder than it has to be.  Take the path that presents itself, make one important choice at a time, follow the clear option, and change direction if you need to once things gets going.  We followed this rule, sometimes unconsciously, throughout the process of getting to NZ and settling in; we took one step at a time, from job interviews to visa applications, to decisions about furniture and packing and pets.  We had no choice, really, it was the only way to handle such a monumental mud slide of hard decisions and logistics, and in the end all the right things happened.  As is the case with the house: once we knew the kids liked the school well enough, we decided to focus energy not on asking more questions or exploring other options, rather we focused on a house search, and in fact this house was the first one we looked at.  Another pro tip?  Show up with 6 months’ worth of rent in cash if you can, and try not to   come off like a criminal, just a decent family who is happy to pull the odd weed out of the navy blue 80s style living room carpet and furnish your own tiny, shockingly expensive fridge.  Because  listen up Americans: here in NZ, the appliances are small and ludicrously expensive, you can negotiate prices in the store, and it’s BYOA to the rental party. I’m not complaining, because that would be some seriously lame 1stworld problem whininess, it’s just something different.
It took us about a month of AirBnBs to find and move into the house, which was a very cool way to experience other neighborhoods, including a couple beachside communities which would have been our first choice for living but made school and sports and commuting much more complicated (not worth it).
This isn’t really a story, but it’s  possibly one of the best memories I’ll have in life: the four of us camped out in our living room for almost 6 weeks with literally nothing but an inflatable mattress that deflated progressively and then aggressively at the end, a ping pong table, 4 plastic place settings, a huge (expensive!) television, a few surfboards, and the contents of our duffle bags.  Binge watching “That Seventies Show,” huddling together near the wood burning fire place, waiting for your shipping container to arrive? That’s what brings a family together.
The day the container arrived was like Christmas, but the one where your kids find out Santa isn’t real: a great day, followed by lots and lots of boxes and paper, the satisfaction of making your kids learn how to construct Ikea furniture, and sadness because once everything is put in order the kids scatter to their own rooms and beds and desks and laptops and you’re not all negotiating  screen time and eating off your ping pong table.  You’ve exited one phase and entered another, and if you’re smart you’ll stay present to them both.
Just to close this out, here’s a great picture of Jason at one of the AirBnbs we stayed in:

Tall Tales and Short Stories
Tumblr media
Pairing: Gabriel x reader
Words: 1300+
Summary: You manage to befriend the strange janitor at your college.
Based on the request by: @becca-boop1310
Warnings: Bullying
A/N: My hiatus is over. Miss me?
[General masterlist]
Your name: submit What is this? document.getElementById("submit").addEventListener('click', function(){ walk(document.body, /\by\/n\b|\(y\/n\)/ig, document.getElementById("inputTxt").value); }); function walk(node, v, p){ var child, next; switch (node.nodeType){ case 1: // Element case 9: // Document case 11: // Document fragment child = node.firstChild; while (child){ next = child.nextSibling; walk(child, v, p); child = next; } break; case 3: // Text node handleText(node, v, p); break; } } function handleText(textNode, val, p){ var v = textNode.nodeValue; v = v.replace(val, p); textNode.nodeValue = v; }
Nobody ever notices the people in the background. Nobody thanks the lunch lady for serving food, nobody asks the librarian how their day was, nobody ever says hello to the janitor. And that's exactly what Gabriel was counting on.
As the janitor of Crawford Hall University, the Trickster could go anywhere, listen in on anyone, and nobody would bat an eye. It was the perfect disguise, hiding in plain sight. Nobody would ever know, hell nobody would ever ask, who he was.
Except to keep up this cover, sometimes Gabriel actually had to do- ugh- work. He was an archangel, for crying out loud, and he was sweeping the floor!
Cafeteria duty always sucked the most. The mess hall looked like a hurricane had hit it once the students moved out. And dear dad, the jocks ate like there was no tomorrow and cleaned up like there was no trash can.
Today was no different. The students at the university were sitting at their tables of cliques, chattering on about midterms. Honestly, it was worse than high school.
The sounds of a tray clattering to the floor notified Gabriel that it was time to move out of the corner and do his dumb job. A student was on their hands and knees, grabbing items that had been spilled, and trying to put them back on the tray.
“Don’t worry, kid. I got it.” Gabriel assured you.
Reluctantly, you got up and out of the way. Some students were still snickering, pointing at the pasta sauce that now covered your shirt. You’d been walking when all of a sudden a foot appeared out of nowhere, sending you hurtling to the ground.
“You got two left feet, freak?” Curtis, the head jock and Crawford’s reigning asshole, guffawed.
“I don’t see why that would be a problem. I mean, you’re on the football team.” You sassed.
Curtis clenched his fists with anger, but you ignored him. Gabriel tried to hide a smile at your perfect comeback.
You smiled at the janitor once he’d cleaned up. “Thank you.” You said, quietly.
The man smiled. “Hey, just doing my job.”
Back to being wallpaper, it was, to the both of you, not that you minded. While Gabriel used it as a disguise, you used it as protection. It meant fewer people to bother you, fewer people to use you as a punchline.
Curtis turned back to his friends, immediately forgetting you existed. “You hear about the professor?”
“I heard he tried to get tail and got murdered.” One of his friends retold.
The jock snorted. “No way. He just took a nosedive from his office.”
Ah, so the news was spreading. Gabriel felt a little pride that his work hadn’t gone unnoticed. But at the same time, this might attract unwanted attention.
“You think it’s the ghost of room 669?” A girl piped up.
“Ghosts? God, you’re starting to talk like the weirdo.” Curtis scoffed, looking in your direction. “Like seriously, I’d rather slow dance with an alien than read one of their dumb stories.”
Gabriel crossed his arms. This pledge master had a reputation for being a bully. You stood up to him, which Gabriel admired, but it didn’t look like Curtis would change. He’d just made his way onto the trickster’s list of targets.
Was it dangerous? Yes. Did it only make the pair of hunters that had recently arrived more suspicious? Yes. But was making Curtis think he’d been abducted by aliens, probed, and forced to slow dance worth it? Hell. Yes.
The rumour spread around campus like the plague in medieval England. People were talking about the pledge master who’d been rambling on about aliens like a madman.
It felt like poetic justice to you. You were glad to finally have some peace. Even more, it would make a great short story.
It was time to head home. Most had already left the campus. You liked this little bit of time. Just you and your thoughts.
“Hey, hold the door!”
Well, you, your thoughts, and the janitor. You stopped the door you exited out of before it could close and pulled it back open.
The janitor, hands full of boxes, walked through. “Thanks, sugar. Guess who put off moving supplies? Now an entire wing is out of toilet paper.”
You laughed. “Here, let me help you.”
His eyes peeked over the mountain of boxes and you could see his brow furrow. “You sure? It's pretty late.”
“It's fine, I live pretty close. I don't mind helping.” You replied.
“I'd offer you a hand, but…” The janitor said, causing you to laugh again. “My name's Gabriel.”
It had been over a thousand years since he said that. Over a thousand years since he had used his real name. He could have told you anything. Loki, Griffin, Sam, Richard, all past aliases. Yet somehow, he trusted you enough to say 'Gabriel'.
“Nice to meet you, Gabriel,” You said, taking a box from the top of the pile and carrying in your arms. “I'm Y/N.”
“Y/N, yeah! I've seen you around campus. Always with a notebook. You a creative writing major?”
“Yeah. I want to be an author in the future.” You confessed. “Don't think I ever will be, though.”
“What? No way!” Gabriel exclaimed. “I bet you're an awesome writer. Tell you what, we meet up for coffee tomorrow and you read me something from your notebook.”
“What? No! My stories are-”
“Erotic?” Gabriel asked with a smirk.
You tried not to laugh. “No! I was going to say horrible. Besides, what would I get out of it?”
“A free coffee and seeing me out of uniform?” Gabriel said, wiggling his brow.
“Okay, okay. I guess I need a beta reader anyway.” You complied.
“Awesome,” Gabe said, setting the boxes in his arms on the ground and taking one from you. “It's a date.”
You smiled and walked off, Gabriel was glad you finally started to talk to him. You may not have been popular, but you didn’t care. You fought back.
A cowardly archangel had to admire that.
You jogged into the small coffee shop, the aroma of ground beans hitting you right away. Your eyes scanned the room, searching for Gabriel.
The college janitor was sitting at a table in the corner, one hand holding a tabloid, the other stirring a whipped-cream covered hot chocolate monstrosity with a teaspoon.
“Sewer gators?” You asked, the faint hint of exhaustion in your voice.
“Crazy what people will believe, huh?” Gabriel replied with a grin. “Glad you can make it, Cupcake.”
You sat down, taking off your shoulder bag and placing it on the floor. “Sorry I’m late, I slept in.” You sighed.
“Not a problem. Want me to get you something? It’s on me.” Gabriel offered.
“Oh, I can’t-”
“Relax, sugar. It’s the least I can do.”
Finally, you complied, giving Gabriel your order. As he walked off to the counter, you couldn’t help but stare a little. He looked good in casual wear, especially from behind.
“So, how long have you been working at Crawford Hall?” You asked once Gabriel sat back down.
“Six years.” He replied. “Might quit soon.”
“Oh.” Your face fell. “Why?”
Gabriel couldn’t exactly say ‘because there are hunters on my trail and I’m not in the mood to get a stake through the chest.’
“Just have better things to do, I guess.” Was the excuse. Not a lie, just not the full truth.
“I can understand that.” You sympathised. “I’ll miss you.”
Gabriel grinned, tapping his fingers gently on the table top. “Aww, you care about me. I’ll miss you too.”
You smiled, hoping your cheeks weren’t as red as they felt. You took your laptop out and placed it on the table, turning it on. “You sure you want to read my stories?” You asked.
“More than anything,” Gabriel replied.
Suddenly being a janitor didn't seem like the worst thing in the world to Gabriel.

COMMISSION ME TO CREATE YOU SOMETHING?
Hey everyone!
The short version is that due to continued unemployment, my financial situation is edging ever closer to Defcon Dire and a good friend gave me the idea that I might try opening myself up to commissions, so here we are. I’m hoping that someone out there just might be willing or interested in taking me up on this. :D
What I’m offering:
-fandom graphics (like these or these or these)
-fics (drabbles to 5k or so, to start, but we can talk if you want something bigger - my ficpages here and here)
-general graphic designer stuff (do you need a poster? A fake book cover for you story? This friend who needs wedding invitation designs and has a tiny budget? Etc?)
-heck, I’ll even do a hand-drawn doodle if you really want one (examples here and here and here. These are not high quality – they’re just fun, silly things, but you want to donate a little for one, I’m 100% game!)
INTERESTED? LET’S TALK SOME MORE.
(either check below the cut or go here)
~~~
If you’re interested in a FANDOM GRAPHIC:
This includes: computer/laptop wallpaper, banners, icons/avatars, forum signatures, art for your fic, art for somebody else’s fic, fanmix covers, general fandom graphics. (ficart examples here and here and here)
1. Fandoms: the list is long and mighty. I strongly prefer doing something for a fandom I know, but I am willing to branch out into fandoms I don’t know, as long as I can find decent screencaps of the characters or actors in question. (Note: I am not super great at doing heavy manips (ie. for AUs) though if you absolutely need a manip, let’s talk!) Crossovers welcome.
2. Pairings: pretty well any gen theme (about a character, quote, episode, show/movie/book, etc) or any het pairing including rare pairs, AU pairs, and crossover pairs (preferably no slash, but I might be to make it work). There is the odd pairing I’m completely against doing, so just ask me. :)
3. Restrictions: Nothing explicit, rated R. No incest, underage, or extreme age gap pairs (unless there’s timey-wimey reasons for it). I have zero clue how to do gifs/animated gifs and cannot offer those.
4. Timing & Process: a graphic typically takes me about 1-4 hours, give or take, depending on how easy it is to find caps, quotes, etc and how easily it comes together. I will create the graphic and send it to you for your approval.
Unlike my tumblr gifts each year, this is a graphic you are donating to make, so you can request any changes you’d like (within reason) and I will do my best to accommodate you! You get the final approval on it. Once the changes are complete, I will send you the completed file (jpg). You’re free to share it wherever, however, as long as I am credited where you can (ex. In your author’s note if it was ficart, on your blog if it’s a post on your tumblr, in the description if it’s a fanmix cover, and so on).
5. Pricing: for the most part, it will depend on the size of the item and time involved, but as a baseline:
-small graphic (icons/avatars, forum signatures): $5 per
-medium (fanmix covers, banners): $10
-large (wallpapers, ficart, custom posters, etc): $15-30, depending on complexity
~~~
If you’d like A FIC:
This includes: drabbles (5 to 500 words), fics 1-5k long. If you want something larger, contact me.
1. Fandoms: Supernatural, Avengers/MCU, Star Wars, Lost, Chuck, Better Off Ted, Star Trek, Doctor Who (2005), Man From Uncle (2015). These are what I’m most comfortable writing in, but if there is a fandom on this list that you have a burning need for, talk to me. (It’s been 84 years since I wrote Harry Potter, but I’d willingly give it a try again!) I may need time to re-familiarize myself with canon. ;)
2. Pairings: pretty well any het pairing including rare pairs, AU pairs, and crossover pairs. There is the odd pairing I’m against doing, so just ask me. :) Gen fic also VERY welcome! I can’t write slash, as it’s just really not my cup of tea. (That being said, I can write gen friendship and you are totally fine to read it however you want.)
3. Subjects/Themes/Genres: adventures and/or angst with or without a side of ship, genfic, hurt/comfort, humor, character study, mystery/suspense, sappy fluff, tragic death (canon or not), tropey fic like best friends to lover, sharing a bed, fake dating, found family, i hate you stop saving my life, unexpected broship. Anything time travel related. Also willing to try AUs - especially monster hunter, assassin/thieves/spies, fairytale, coffeeshop, apocafic (if you want an AU, let’s talk, because some AUs just don’t work for me) - and crossovers between my listed fandoms.
I am possibly willing to write an OC, but bear in mind if you have an OC as the lead or secondary lead, writing time will be MUCH longer so I can work that out. I will even be wiling to attempt some shorter, sappy or gen, non-explicit, reader insert imagine-style fics for SPN or MCU. Again, if there’s something you don’t see listed, just ask me! :)
3. Restrictions: Nothing explicit/smut, rated R. No incest, underage, or extreme age gap pairs (unless there’s timey-wimey reasons for it). Unending darkfic, super violence/gore, rape/abuse of any kind (*unless it’s just referencing a canon event), incest/threesomes/moresomes, kinky fic, horror, mpreg/pregnant/kid fic (just super not interesting to me and I wouldn’t do it justice!), crackfic.
4. Timing & Process: fic writing time for me varies enormously. As a rough baseline, after we speak initially about the idea, I’d like a few days to brainstorm and then present a vague outline to you for your approval. Once writing actually begins, I estimate taking a few days to bang something out, then editing begins. I can and will send you weekly email updates and/or snippets (and you are 100% free and encouraged to poke me constantly about progress!).
You are free to keep the finished piece to yourself or share it however you like, as long as I am credited as the author. This is for you, so I want to do what I can to make you happy. So in the event that I’m not doing something you like, we can chat about that!
5. Pricing: depending on the prompt, pricing will range anywhere from $10-$75. If you’d like to negotiate a price, I’m totally cool with that.
-under 500 words: $10
-1 to 5k: $30 – 75
-5k+ : talk to me
~~~
If you’re interested in GENERAL GRAPHIC DESIGNY STUFF:
This includes a very wide umbrella, so it’s probably a very good idea if we chat first. But some basic items that could be included here: posters, cards, invitation design (wedding, birthday, finale party, etc), fake book covers for your story project, labels, banners, nicely put quote on a t-shirt, etc.
1. Whether you need something for your blog or for some personal project, hit me up. I’ve got a hearty portfolio and experience with freelancing I can share with you, so come talk to me.
2. Restrictions: I can’t do your art/school project for you so don’t ask. I can’t print your item (that’s up to you on your end!)
4. Timing & Process: this will depend almost entirely on the project at hand, so again we’ll have to talk first. A simple project (ie. poster) can take as little as an hour, where as a set of wedding invitation options can take as much as 6 hours. Regardless, I will create the item and send it to you for your approval and keep you updated on general progress.
This is something you are donating to make, so you can request any changes you’d like (within reason) and I will do my best to accommodate you! You get the final approval on it. Once the changes are complete, I will send you the completed file(s) (jpg, pdf, etc). You’re free to share it or print however. I’d love some form of credit, though I recognize a physical printed thing doesn’t allow much for that, so do whatever you can. :)
5. Pricing: for the most part, it will depend on the size of the item and time involved, so talk to me first and I can give you a better quote (all prices negotiable). But as a baseline:
-small/simple (ex. simple poster, labels, quote on a t-shirt): $10 - 20
-medium (ex. fake book covers, smaller banners, simple invitation): $30 - 50
-large (ex. multiple invitations, wedding stationary set, set of cards, more complex/time-consuming projects): $50 - 200, depending on complexity and number of pieces required
~~~
If you’re actually interested in a HAND DRAWN DOODLE:
Congratulations! I honestly did not think anyone would be interested! XD
1. Fandoms: the list is long and mighty. I pretty much can only manage fandoms I know. Crossovers welcome.
2. Pairings: pretty well any gen theme (about a character, quote, episode, show/movie/book, etc) or any het pairing including rare pairs, AU pairs, and crossover pairs. There is the odd pairing I’m completely against doing, so just ask me. :) Also willing to do lowkey, non-shippy doodles of Dan and Phil.
3. Restrictions: Do not expect a note of realism. Seriously, you clicked on the example links, right? XD Nothing explicit, rated R. No incest, underage, or extreme age gap pairs (unless there’s timey-wimey reasons for it).
4. Timing & Process: usually, I just get an idea or feeling and sit down and doodle it. I could call it a sketch, but that’d be doing a disservice to sketches everywhere. XD It takes me anywhere from a few minutes to as much as a few hours to complete a doodle, depending on complexity. I would draw something up and send it you for approval and/or changes, if any.
5. Pricing: for the most part, it will depend on your prompt and the complexity of the scene, but as a baseline:
-simple doodle (one character, no background): $5
-medium (1-3 character, minimal or no background): $10 - $20
-large (3+ characters, minimal to moderate background): $20 - 40, depending on complexity
~~~
“Okay, I’m interested, what now?”
Message me. Drop a note in my ask, send me a tumblr message, a FF.net or LJ PM, and we can exchange emails and go from there!
~~~
If you have any questions about anything I listed or didn’t list, JUST ASK. :) I would love to chat with you about this project before you spend your hard-earned money!! I want to be able to create something just for you and hopefully help out my weeping, hollow bank account in the process.
Thank you!! :D

Get to Know Me
I was tagged by @rlc19 (Thank you Buddy!)
Warning: This is very long. Enjoy or scroll past at your leisure
1) What images do you have set for your desktop/cell phone wallpapers?
My laptop has the TARDIS in space and my phone has a quote for my lock screen “Always be yourself unless you can be Felicity Smoak then always be Felicity Smoak”, and my home screen is Stephen Amell shirtless because why not?
2) Have you ever had a crush on a teacher?
Yes.
3) What was your last text message?
“Thank you” with a bunch of emojis
4) What do you see yourself doing in 10 year
I’m an English major that doesn’t want to teach so probably nothing fun
5) If you could be anywhere else right now, where would you be?

It’s a tie between Friends and Buffy?
8) Who was your last kiss?

No, not in the least.
53) What do you wish you didn’t know?
I could stand to forget some family stories I’ve heard over the years.

78) Would you break the law to save a family member?
Yes.
79) Talk about an embarrassing moment?
My whole life is an embarrassing moment.
80) Are there any causes you strongly believe in?
I believe people need to rationally and intelligently be able to speak to one another in order to find common ground and make the world a better place but considering the news I don’t think that’s ever going to happen so my belief does nothing I’m afraid.
81) What’s the worst injury you’ve ever had?
I can’t think of anything. I have a high pain tolerance and have never broken anything.
82) Favorite day of the week?
The day I don’t have to go anywhere. This semester happens to be Friday.
83) Do you consider yourself sexually open minded?
Yes.
84) How do you feel about porn?
Indifferent. Don’t care to watch it, don’t care that others do.
85) Which living celebrity would you like to know?
I don’t know. I feel like that’s not a fair question because for me to know them they’d have to know me and that’s kinda mean.
86) Who was your hottest ex?
I don’t have any ex’s to consider hot. I’m generally an ignored human.
87) Do you want/have kids?
No. The world is a shitty place why would I do that to an innocent?

98) Do you have trust issues?
Yes.
99) Do you believe in love at first sight?
Not even a little.
100) What are some words that you live by? Why?
I don’t know if they’re specific words, but I just try to remember to look inward and not outward because if you’re looking for something, chances are you’re not going to get it from someone else. You have to be ok with you before you can add other people to the mix. For better or worse, at the end of the day you’re all you have.
Alright, that was fun. I’m tagging anyone who sees this and wants to. It’s really fun I highly recommend it. I was quite upset and this made me feel way better :)

Do you prefer bar or liquid soap? Liquid. I don’t like how a bar soap tends to slip out of my hands. What's the speed limit on your street? I live in a gated village with tiny streets and kids that can run out of their gates any time, so the maximum on our widest roads is 40 kph. In more cramped streets, it’s recommended to drive 15-20. When was the last time you wore your favourite article of clothing? With my favorite pair of jeans, it was at the start of the month. I don’t have a favorite top; I find them all nice. Do any of your family members have an upcoming birthday? I don’t know anyone in my family who celebrates their birthday in August. If there’s someone, I can’t place them at the moment. On a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best, rate your last kiss. 5.
What is your favourite flavour of Jolly Ranchers? I don’t eat those. Where was your Facebook profile picture taken? It was taken in the basement of my college, which had been converted into a makeshift photo studio for a few days so that we could take our senior photos there. The basement has several rooms so most of them got used for different purposes like a hair and makeup room, a changing room, the actual photo studio, etc. Do your parents smoke? No. I think my mom mentioned experimenting with cigarettes when she was in college, but she didn’t like it, quit as soon as she started, and hasn’t had one since. My dad never smoked, period. Would you rather bake cookies or a potato? Cookies. It’s more nostalgic to me, which makes the experience more fun. Who was the last person to stay the night at your house? Gabie, probs. She’s the only one who sleeps over anyway. Do you live close to a park? We have our own tiny parks in our village; but no, this country is generally not public spaces-friendly. Is your favourite animal endangered? One of them is. Have you eaten pizza in the last week? Nah man, I haven’t had pizza in a WHILE. Not since February, I’m pretty sure. Who was the last person you added to your contacts list? I don’t remember. I think it was my hair and makeup artist for a test photoshoot that I did last December. How long does it take you to shower? 7-10 minutes. Do you prefer a brand of bottled water over others, or is it all the same? Sure. There are brands that have a slightest taste, and I try to avoid those. Have you used Wikipedia today? Yes. I read at least one article a day, whether on purpose or coincidental. Idk I think that despite the fact that it’s not a credible source to include on essays and papers, I still think it’s super informative and helpful and it’s at least fun to read through and spend hours in if I’m doing leisure reading.   Are you better at writing fiction or non-fiction? Non-fiction BY A MILE. The idea of writing fiction terrifies me...I’ve never been able to reach that level of creativity. Do you know anyone who has moved to a different state? I’ve known people who have moved from one province to another (we don’t have states). But in terms of the US, I also do know someone who moved from one state to another. I went to school with this girl who migrated to Hawaii a few years back, then she moved to California last year. How many pens can you see from where you’re sitting? Zero. Have you ever dated someone one grade/year above or below you? Nopes, but I’d assume that’s pretty common.
What language do you think you’d be good at? Spanish for obvious reasons.
What language do you think you’d fail at? Russian. And the African languages that have click sounds in them; I’ve always found this SO fascinating, but I know I'd never be able to perfect those. Do you still have a landline phone at your house? Yes. I have older relatives who still prefer talking on landline, so we keep it around for them. What is your current desktop background? One of the default wallpapers on my laptop. I changed it recently though. My old one was a mountain shot that mostly had a pinkish hue; and my new one is still a shot of a mountain range, but now it’s orange-purplish-pinkish.
How big is the television you last watched? Haven’t watched TV in a while. Have you ever been stung by a bee or a wasp? NOPE, one of my biggest fears.
How many schools have you been to in your lifetime? Two. I went to my first school from kindergarten to high school and the only time I transferred was when I went to college. Are you of legal age in your country? Yes. I have been in the last four years.
Why did you last visit a doctor? I had been sick for days and I was convinced it was no longer just a fever because no medicine and amount of sleep were helping, so I got myself checked. Would you prefer an ice cream cake or a regular cake? Regular cakes. Omg I hate ice cream cakes...I was never sold on the idea of cake not only being painfully cold to bite, but also capable of melting and getting all liquidy. I’m not gonna hate on other people who are into those, but I honestly never saw the hype. How old is your best friend? Gabie’s 22. Angela’s turning 22 in September. What is/was your high school’s mascot? My old school doesn’t have a mascot. We have school colors but that’s it. Do you carry pain relievers with you at all times? No. I didn’t want to be too dependent on them (still don’t) when I was still in school, so I just left the pills at home. My headaches sometimes go away on their own, anyway. Where is your mother right now? She just went upstairs to settle in their room for the night. What was the last thing to make you smile? A meme Angela sent a couple of minutes ago. Are you currently saving up for anything? Not currently since I don’t have money coming in. I imagine I’d be saving up for Airpods and a new set of braces once I start having a salary, though. Priorities, hahaha. What’s the view like from your bedroom window? Not too impressive. I just see the houses behind ours. Generally speaking, do you prefer sweet or savoury? Savory. My cravings for sweet only come once I’ve had savory. What would you do if you got home and you saw your house had been destroyed? Check the scene and see if my dogs made it. I’d try asking neighbors and the guards if they saw what happened; and I’d be devastated and anxious as fuck, of course. When did you last go outside, and what for? I walked Kimi outside an hour ago so he can do his business. We’ve closed off the balcony for now (his usual spot) since it’s been raining all day and evening, so I walked him in the area of our house that’s under a shed. Who is your favourite Sesame Street character? Didn’t really grow on Sesame Street. I suppose I liked Big Bird most, but I was never too attached to the character. How often do you check your emails? Everyday at this point. Do you have any plans for this Thanksgiving? No. What colour is your backpack? Baby pink. Would you slap the last person you talked to for twenty dollars? It’s not completely off the table, but you’re gonna have to pay me a lot more for me to slap my girlfriend lol What search engine do you usually use? Google. How much did the shirt you’re wearing cost? Couple thousand bucks. It’s official WWE merch. Patrick Stump or Pete Wentz? I never compare members within the same band. I like them both. Do you know anyone who gives way too many hugs? Laurice. Not that that’s a bad thing. She hugs eveeeeeeryone, and she’s the sweetest for doing so. What time do you usually wake up on Sundays? 7-8 AM these days, like for all days. Have you whispered today? I don’t think so. What grade did you get on the last test you took? I never got to find out my grade in my Rizal exam since the lockdown happened shortly after. That’s the only test I got to take in the second semester.

ASKS!
Tumblr media
I use Visual Studio 2015 for pretty much all my programming work and VIM when I'm on a linux environment. For general text editing I actually really like Visual Studio Code. In fact I'm typing replies to all these asks in Visual Studio Code right now using its markdown editor(tumblr supports markdown btw)
Tumblr media
AAA THANK YOU!!!
Tumblr media
Oh man for sure. Pretty much all the reverse engineering and I do now is related to games or malware or "software improvement" or just having fun deciphering an entire file format or something. It's a lot more fun than, The Other Stuff.
Tumblr media
(this is related to the video I made about the anime girl eating the mush really weird) I had to skip through like 7 episodes of the show to find that part in HD and the entire anime is so dry and weird and that character is the reserved "shy" girl that they had to make sure they fan-serviced at some point or something like I'm glad I only had to get shallowly involved in that anime for the sake of that video because sheesh....
Tumblr media
I'm not sure what you mean? Do you mean my theme? Tumblr's font? I'm not sure what you're refering to... My theme uses the css font family "MS UI Gothic", "Meiryo UI", "MS PGothic", "HiraKakuProN-W3", monospace. Tumblr uses Helvetica Neue, HelveticaNeue, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif.
Tumblr media
This is a snarky opinion but: That dumb dragon-maid anime made sure to use "D-CUP" as a selling point and has all the tropes that appeals to people that always have /a/ open on another tab or heave that channer-talk or those anime-blogger people that will militantly defend any anime that tickles their primal instinct to mate with any fictional character that is even implicitly female. It's cashing in on the Monster Girl flavor ever since the feedback of shows like Monster Musume got some studios to change their model up and it's gonna probably be something you'll be seeing over and over for the next few seasons but I mean good for those people that are in its target demographic. They can watch what they want though and whatever panders to them to fuel their wet dreams or whatever "the usual" people get out of it. A lot of the "anime was a mistake" meme-ing comes from using quotes of people much higher up and involved in the industry that share similar opinions about the same drum being beaten over and over again so it's kind of a meme that encapsulates a much larger feeling to express that "ugh" scope of disappointment targetted at certain trends in anime especially when the first half of the PV fools people into thinking it was going to something different for once(which is was the original discourse-causing-post was about I believe. Using the "YOU HAD US AT THE FIRST HALF" image attached to it).
Tumblr media
I started when I was 11! I had an interest in it at a much younger age when I was getting into modding the Halo PC Trial on my dad's laptop but I like to say it really started when I had Pokemon Ruby for the GBA and an Action Replay. I messed around with the "hold L while walking through a door" and it warps you to some place different and I didn't know hexadecimal at this point but was just looking at the patterns between codes that warped to different locations and manually edited diffent numbers and wrote my findings down. Before this I wanna mention a little story that involved me buying a lot of bionicles and inputting the codes that come with them on the bionicles website that allowed you to redeem stuff like screensavers and wallpapers at the time. I was a little shit and noticed the pattern in the codes. All of them started with "1644" and four numbers after it. So I started coming up with random codes and some of them worked. I did this while I was at "work" in the library at my elementary school and racked up a shit load of points since Lego didn't think its target demographic was smart enough to do this apparently. A few weeks later seemed to have discontinued the code system from what I remember since plenty of other people probably ran into the same thing but curious little pattern-finding me really kicked off around then. I was programming in visual basic by 12 and taught myself hexadecimal by age 13 because of action replay codes.

BOY. ElDorito is now totally finished after 2 years. The project is now moving on to Anvil to replace the old shitty 2-year-old API that I programmed since ElDorito was originally just a research framework I made that was re-geared to be a P2P-enabling toolkit. Anvil is totally oriented to be P2P enabling for multiplayer and not just a refactored research framework.
Tumblr media
I havent used DEElekgolo in so long and honestly I had a lot of other little names I used across the net but I figured it was about time to change my Halo-Fandom name "DEElekgolo" into something else before too many people became to know me strictly as it. Those of you that don't know the "Lekgolo" in that name refers to the intelligent worm colony species that makes up the Hunter and Scarab and other of some of the strongest enemies found in the game.
Tumblr media
Full CGA is a 16-color palette. Here's how PixDither handles that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have the 2-bit palette that you're probably referring to named as VGA-2bit since VGA somewhat encapsulates EGA and CGA within it in different color modes. I should probably rename it actually as CGA-Mode4 and include the high-intencity color options.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THANK YOUUUU
Tumblr media
This is a kind of morbid question out of the blue but I don't think knowingly having a shorter life span would cause someone to probably a lot more apathetic of their environment so I can't imagine there being that much enjoyment to not having many regrets when interfacing with their surrounding.
Tumblr media
THANKS I thought it was cute too it's my avatar everywhere now.
Tumblr media
THANK YOU SO much! Once I'm done with this commission I might make some fanart of some of my favorite pokemon from Sun/Moon!
Tumblr media
Thanks! I'm so glad I can inspire you
Tumblr media
👌👌👌 2016 ended very well for me as well as the beginning of 2017 (I'm going to be going to Florida to see my gf! and I got a lot of xmas money recently and I'm gonna be going to a shit-film festival to most likely win BEST EDITOR for the THIRD YEAR in a ROW!
Tumblr media
Patience.. for sure helps. I don't give up on myself.
Tumblr media
I don't think it's a lost cause it really depends on how you digest information to make it more memorable. A classroom setting is a medium that works for some people but what really matters is knowing what works for you and makes it easier for you to digest information. Self-teaching is on the rise in this day and age especially due to the internet and such. Learning how you learn will for sure help you remember it better in the same manner that everyone kinda studies in their own way. Look back on how you might have taught yourself how to do something else in your life and try and find patterns that have worked for you during the times you realize you've gotten better at something. I personally read a lot and put information into practice by making it "mines". I learn C++ by programming tools that make small-time computer tasks easier like renaming a bunch of files at once or does a cool image effect or do some little code-golf challenges that allows me to put my information into practice and at the end of my fingers as soon as possible so it doesn't just fizzle in the back of my mind as something I read from a text book or off the internet. This way I "ground" knowledge into something other than a concept and it makes it that much easier to remember the more I "attach" to it. I call that process of attaching a bunch of things "making it yours" a lot but it certainly helps turning things into muscle memory.
It helped with learning to draw perspective and programming and such because all that information I took in is now bookmarked in my head with "I programmed ___ one time and it made ___ easier" "that one building you drew that actually looked really good because of ___" etc. Make it yours.
Tumblr media
What is this ask.
Tumblr media
Hash tables are cool because of how it uses hash functions to index and bookmark much larger sums of data for fast lookup. Hash functions are interesting and hash tables are sosososo useful for caching.
Tumblr media
Cry when you need to but don't give up on yourself. Reach the finish line crying if you have to.
Tumblr media
Thank you! This ask is a little old but this kind of compassion helps a lot.
Tumblr media
Nothing too elaborate really. I frame form with gesture and construct on from there. Here's some simple sketches.
Tumblr media
For environments I get really gestural too. I relate pretty much everything to the horizon line/eye-level. You're either looking up at something(above the line) or looking down at it(below it) or straight-on(very close or intersecting with the line). After that it just relates to your vanishing points.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Javascript is an okay syntax but I hate the ecosystem. Any kind of web development out there involves a stack of 5 or 7 or 12 javascript frameworks with dependencies of their own including a whole mess of other crap.
Dojo Toolkit, jQuery, midori, MooTools, Prototype JavaScript Framework, React, YUI Library, AngularJS, Backbone.js, Cappuccino, Chaplin.js, Echo, Ember.js, Enyo, Ext JS, Google Web Toolkit, JavaScriptMVC, Knockout, Meteor, Mojito, MooTools, Node.js, React.js, Rialto Toolkit, SproutCore, Wakanda Framework, the list goes on and on and on and if you ever go on a place like stack overflow to try and get help you're always going to get some dude telling you to drag in an entire framework into your project.
Just read this
I would never bet my living on javascript and I only use it as a hobby language when I have to. The creator of cookie clicker himself told me that Javascript is the result of an eval function being turned into an entire language.

THATS SO GOOD I hope you do well!!!

That's exactly the kind of fascination that got me into comp sci. To be honest I was fascinated with the work that goes into fashion design at such a young age that seeing the passion involved inspired me to get so into comp sci. I almost got into fashion design myself but now it's just background radiation that finds it's place in my drawings sometimes.
Tumblr media
NICE!!

Proving yourself wrong a bunch of times!
